Love to love you baby
Ok, so I've done lists for chick rock songs, do-me songs, and break-up songs now.

Christi has requested that we all put together another list of the "greatest love songs". (Word of warning: Even think about listing a Celine or Mariah song and you're out of my blog. Seriously. Just go.) For my pick, it would have to be "Head Over Feet" by Alanis Morissette. Your turn!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Fields of Gold by Sting ... or You Go To my Head by Billie Holiday (her version is very ... potent).

¤ ¤ credit: A | 06.14.02 at 04:26 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

I'm partial to "truly madly deeply" by savage garden

¤ ¤ credit: wendell | 06.14.02 at 04:47 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

NKOTB "You Got It (The Right Stuff)", of course...

¤ ¤ credit: todd | 06.14.02 at 05:00 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Todd, you're my Jungle Love. Oh eee oh eee oh.

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 06.14.02 at 05:06 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

"Woman" - Anti-Nowhere League

http://www.antinowhereleague.com/lyrics.htm
scroll down for lyrics :-)

¤ ¤ credit: Jason D- | 06.14.02 at 05:11 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

I guess it goes without saying that anything from *Puffy*, *Puff Daddy*, *P. Diddy*, *P (as in prisoner) #12345*, or whatever he's calling himself these days, is out as well! ;-)

Anyway...here goes (I have two!)...

[showing my age]

1. "Your Song" by Elton John. And I mean the original. If any evil people like Celine, Mariah, Puffy, or whoever covered it, I don't mean them. I mean Sir Elton John. :-)

2. "She's Got A Way" by Billy Joel. From his very first album, "Cold Spring Harbor". this is a song he wrote for his first wife (way before Christie Brinkley), back when he was too broke to give her anything else for a gift. It's still a beautiful song!

[/showing my age]

¤ ¤ credit: Christine M. | 06.14.02 at 05:38 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

I Try - Macy Gray

¤ ¤ credit: matthew | 06.14.02 at 05:41 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

"I Only Have Eyes For You" - The Flamingos

¤ ¤ credit: hoopty | 06.14.02 at 05:47 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Oops, I goofed...the song Billy Joel wrote for his first wife when he was broke was *Your're My Home*...was just listening to the *Cold Spring Harbor* CD and realized this.

Still, yet another great love song!

¤ ¤ credit: Christine M. | 06.14.02 at 05:51 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

well, i think "Fuk U in the Ass" by the Outhere Brothers is pretty romantic...

ok seriously, one song that i'm sure that this is one song most people have never heard, but i think it's pretty derned cool - Still Remains by the Stone Temple Pilots.

"If you should die before me, ask if you could bring a friend..."

I'm also partial to Your Song by Elton John, True by Spandau Ballet. I'd think of some more, but all that's coming to mind is "oh-eeee-oh-eee-oh". thanks, todd.

¤ ¤ credit: mikey | 06.14.02 at 06:04 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Hmm,
Woman - John Lennon.
She's Got a Way - Billy Joel.
Crush - Dave Matthews Band.
The Promise - Tracy Chapman.
What a Wonderful World - Louie Armstrong.
There are soo many more, I could go on for hours. But now I have to find Tracy Chapman's CD, so I can upload it over here tonight. If you haven't heard it, check tonight, later.

¤ ¤ credit: annessa | 06.14.02 at 06:09 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Oh, and
Forever and Ever, Amen - Randy Travis

¤ ¤ credit: annessa | 06.14.02 at 06:25 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Well, I couldn't pass this one up . . .

My favorite love songs are (in no particular order)

1. True Companion - Marc Cohn
2. Your Song - Ewen McGregor(from Moulin Rouge)
3. Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart
4. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison (even though my wife has blue eyes - it's her favorite!)
5. Something in the Way She Moves - James Taylor
6. Fire and Rain - James Taylor
7. You're Still the One - Shania Twain
8. I Love The Way You Love Me - Faith Hill
9. I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

¤ ¤ credit: Jason | 06.14.02 at 06:33 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Jason, I have green eyes -- and that's the song I requested the band to play at the party the night before our wedding when they pulled me up and asked what I wanted to hear! Of course, Todd didn't get a choice. They played "Mean Old Lady" for him. *g*

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 06.14.02 at 06:36 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Chances are you won't know any of these, but I'm more than willing to put them up somewhere for you to get. I'm not a fan of the typical love song, but they're all very good. :)

Good Morning (Waking Up With You) by Steve Poltz
No One Lives Me Like You by Jars of Clay
Radio King by Golden Smog
True Love in the Galaxy by Mourning Widows
Up Er Mei by James Taylor (my wedding song)
When I First Kissed You by Extreme

.. and the number one love song is ..
Remember the Mountain Bed by Billy Bragg & Wilco

Definitely look up the last one - it's a Woody Guthrie song put to music by Wilco and is just an amazing poem put to music.

Cheers,
-R.

¤ ¤ credit: Rick | 06.14.02 at 06:43 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

I definitely agree about 'fields of gold', 'she's got a way', and ''your song'. I have to add Sting's 'Mad about you' (no, not from the tv show, sheesh), and 'maybe I'm amazed', which I simply adore, cause, well, you can just tell Paul really meant every word, and wasn;t just reciting lyrics.

Erasure - "Always"

¤ ¤ credit: GE | 06.14.02 at 07:15 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

sally's song from nightmare before christmas. london after midnight recorded a version of it. i think that should count even though it's not a top 40.

Boston- More than a feeling.

¤ ¤ credit: Chuck | 06.14.02 at 08:04 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Thank you guys so much! I am loving all the choices that you are making and I can't wait to begin downloading! :)

¤ ¤ credit: Christi | 06.14.02 at 08:22 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Hmmm, Here's my list:

Into the Mystic - Van Morrison
Have a Little Faith in Me - John Hiatt
I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues - Elton John (which is sort of a I miss you love song)
Sway - Bic Runga
All About Soul - Billy Joel
I Love to See you Smile - Randy Newman
Till We've Run out of Road - Jewel

I could go on forever. I'd have to say these are my current faves.

Jason, True Companion was my wedding song. The marriage didn't last, but the cd that I put it on has!! lol.

¤ ¤ credit: statia | 06.14.02 at 08:45 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Ya know, not that it's like 3 months too late or anything, but I can't believe that no one suggested Bad Animal by the Bloodhound Gang for a do me song. Damn, that just makes me want to hit it to the man everytime I hear it. And watch rhinos or something get it on at the same time... I can't understand it!!

¤ ¤ credit: statia | 06.14.02 at 08:53 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

lol@ "word of warning", i guess i am forever hated...

¤ ¤ credit: queen | 06.14.02 at 09:01 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

2. Sun and Moon from Miss Saigon
3. In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel

¤ ¤ credit: Christine | 06.14.02 at 09:05 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

¤ ¤ credit: jon | 06.14.02 at 09:20 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

2. Somebody by Depeche Mode
3. Wonderful by Adam Ant (good apology song)
4. Never Tear Us Apart by INXS
5. Ain't Even Done With the Night by John Cougar Mellencamp

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 06.14.02 at 09:23 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Wow.... I am glad so many people have mentioned "True Companion" by Marc Cohn. That is my absolute all-time favorite! ;)

¤ ¤ credit: Christi | 06.14.02 at 10:41 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

My fav would have to be:

In Spite of Ourselves by Iris Dement & John Prine

¤ ¤ credit: Hone K | 06.14.02 at 11:05 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Since we're on a Marc Cohn spin, how about the song right BEFORE True Companion on the CD?

Perfect Love.

EXCELLENT love story set to music.

Cheers,
-R.

¤ ¤ credit: Rick | 06.14.02 at 11:18 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Some very good ones here, and some yuk! ones too, but anyway...pert near anything by Van the Man. (Crazy Love anyone?)But ah, Let's Get It On is THE defenitive love song y'all...The original of course, with one exception. Jack Black nails that muthafunker.

¤ ¤ credit: dawson | 06.14.02 at 11:23 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

"Perfect Love"... Great song Rick! And I especially like it because James Taylor sings backup! :)

¤ ¤ credit: Christi | 06.14.02 at 11:31 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Great songs.Keep it going.I'm taking "notes".

¤ ¤ credit: JoeW | 06.14.02 at 11:39 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Three come to mind:

All I Want Is You - U2
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
Italian Leather Sofa - Cake

¤ ¤ credit: The Date Project | 06.14.02 at 11:42 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

In no particular order:
Come What May - Nicole Kidman And Ewan McGregor
Everything I Do - Bryan Adams
She's Got A Way - Billy Joel
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney
Wonderful Tonight - by Eric Clapton
I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi
Can't Help Falling In Love With You - Elvis
Unchained Melodies - The Righteous Brothers
Crazy For You - Madonna
Please Forgive Me - Bryan Adams
Thank You For Loving Me - Bon Jovi

Had enough? Mushy enough for ya? Because I could go on and on and on. But this should do for now.

¤ ¤ credit: Lynn | 06.14.02 at 11:55 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Absolutely nothing to do with this post. Bummer... you didn't post your toes! I only have 40 minutes to get some toes posted! Help!

¤ ¤ credit: Christine | 06.15.02 at 01:23 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

also, I'd like to add:
Bryan Adams - Heaven (Junior Prom theme)
Keith Sweat - Twisted
Lisa Loeb - Stay
Breathe - Hands to Heaven

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go crank up some Static-X...

¤ ¤ credit: mikey | 06.15.02 at 01:27 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

Three love songs that bring a tear to my eye...

"God Only Knows," Beach Boys
"True Love Ways," Buddy Holly
"The Luckiest," Ben Folds

¤ ¤ credit: stennie | 06.15.02 at 02:01 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

Where in the hell have I been all day?! I didn't even see this until now... slacker, Sue!

Others already named a few:
Wonderful Tonight (Clapton)
In your eyes (Peter Gabriel)
Brown eyed girl (Van Morrison)
Stay (Lisa Loeb)

But here's more:
Like the rain (Clint Black) Please don't ban me for mentioning country, give it an honest chance... ;-p
Possession (Sarah Mac)
Rocket Man (Elton John)
The Rose (Bette Midler)
I know there are more, but for some reason, I am all tapped out! :)

¤ ¤ credit: Susan | 06.15.02 at 03:24 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

Just listened to The Promise on annessa's blog. It's a good one.Are your eyes leaking?

¤ ¤ credit: JoeW | 06.15.02 at 03:36 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

Heads up to everyone that doesn't want to lose this thread... You can find the links to all four song-list categories I've done now over in the sidebar under "dancing queen"! (This will include the comments.)

Amazed by Poe

"You change the equation I add up to
and all of the things that I thought I knew
You turn them around
I'm amazed
When push comes to shove what I'd give to you
Everything."

I swoon every time I hear this song. Swoon swoon swoon. It makes my insides go to goo. So does "Annie's Song" by John Denver, too, so.

¤ ¤ credit: VASpider | 06.15.02 at 04:16 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

"I wanna be your boyfriend" -- Ramones
"Love Like Blood" -- John Hiatt
"Two Silver Hearts" -- Shake Russell and Dana Cooper (Sort of Texas specific, but worth seeking out)
"She Drives Me Crazy" -- Fine Young Cannibals
"The Island" -- The version Kellye Gray does. Very sexy.
"A Nightingale Sang In Barkley Square" - Manhattan Transfer
"How Sweet it is" -- James Taylor
"Sledgehammer" -- Peter Gabriel (or does this qualify as a "do me" song?)

And ditto to Crash by DMB, In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel

Now I have the urge to go make a mixtape....

¤ ¤ credit: Cody Clark | 06.15.02 at 04:30 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

I'm going to base mine on stuff that makes me think of my past relationships and what really got it going for just me, or both, or her, whatever :) (no particular order btw)
1. Bryan Adams - Summer of '69 (no not the obvious reason)
2. Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply
3. Goo Goo Dolls - Name
4. Brian McKnight - Anytime
5. 98 Degrees - Invisible Man
6. Weezer - Only In Dreams

And that's all I can think of right now. If I screwed up the coding (which I probably did) and this post comes out huge and sloppy, I apologize in advance. Feel free to delete it, Robyn.

I'm so glad that at least one person mentioned "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge. Wow, that's an incredible song :)

I just recently created a video for my best friend and his fiance for their wedding and I had to sort through a lot of love song to find some with good tempo and great words so I'll contribute some of my findings:
1) Clint Black & Lisa Hartman - When I said I do
2) Edwin McCain - I'll Be
3) Lonestar - Amazed
4) Ronan Keating - When You Say Nothing At All
5) Monica - Angel of Mine

Etc, etc :) Sorry if you're not a country fan. I'm not normally either, but the songs I found that were country had perfect tempo/lyrics for a video :)
