Like a Friend
Ever had a song come on that makes you you pause and think, "Man I wish I could break up with _______ all over again just so I could send them this on a mixed tape..." (Yes, I liked "High Fidelity" way too much.)

"Like a Friend"
by Pulp

Don’t bother saying you're sorry.
Why don’t you come in?
Smoke all my cigarettes. Again.
Everytime I get no further --
How long has it been?
Come on in now;
Wipe your feet on my dreams.....

You take up my time
Like some cheap magazine.
When I could have been
Learning something.....
Well, you know what I mean.

I’ve done this before;
And I will do it again.

C’mon and kill me baby,
Whilst you smile like a friend.
Oh and I’ll come running.....
Just to do it again.

You are that last drink I never should have drunk.
You are the body hidden in the trunk.
You are the habit I can’t seem to kick.
You are my secrets on the front page every week.

You are the car I never should have bought.
You are the train I never should have caught.
You are the cut that makes me hide my face.
You are the party that makes me feel my age.

Like a car crash I can see,
But I just can’t avoid.
Like a plane I’ve been told
I never should board.
Like a film that’s so bad,
But I’ve got to stay ‘til the end.

Let me tell you now;
It’s lucky for you that we’re friends.

And if you've got one of those songs, post the lyrics and knock us all out!

UPDATE: You can find a list of the songs that were gathered here.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

The last paragraph alone in that song earns it in my book, leandra!

Hmmmm...it keeps the skin for me on my Mac and PC. Heather had that problem awhile back, too, though. Anyone else?

It's all white for me, too.

Almost the entire Everyone Else is Doing It, So Why Can't We album by the cranberries should have been sent to one of my ex-bfs, whom I lovingly refer to and remember as "Satan".

I ran into that problem earlier...I didn't write the error message down, something about a php error. Sorry Robyn.

From "High Fidelity" by John Wesley Harding, "I'm Wrong About Everything". Great tune, good background singers and Lord knows a song that I can replay for countless times in my crazy. Or even better, from "Say Anything", Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes"

Cheers!

I've asked Christine to look into it -- thanks for the heads-up everyone! Since she set my skins up, it's better left to her...

Hey everyone -- before you report a problem can you clear your cache and cookies -- and only report an error if you still get a strange "read more" link after that? It seems to be clearing it up for everyone...don't know why...but it is. Thanks!

"Beautiful Goodbye" the lyrics are here. Remembrances of letting go of someone who was very dear...
High Fidelity is a great movie. [now, I have the urge to download some of the songs from that movie :) ]

That Third Eye Blind song "How's it gonna be" is a good one! I always writhe in pain over breakups-past when he starts screaming in the middle of it. I have a whole mix CD of songs that make me remember the past people in my life... I think it keeps me grounded. *sigh*

Robyn, this is a wonderful topic. I'd like to add BNL's "Break Your Heart". It is a great song if you are the dumpee and the dumper is a twit who thinks he/she has been doing you some huge favor by staying in a dying relationship.

I notice you don't have any country tunes on the list. I'm not normally a huge country fan but these artists specialize in breakup tunes so I have to add Patty Loveless's "You Can Feel Bad". This little ditty epitomizes the power that the of just letting go and moving on.

Robyn, I could toss some Macy Gray your way, but I have to go old school on this one: "Guess I'll Hang My Tears out to Dry," by the master himself, Mr. Frank Sinatra.

If you like this kind of thing, you can find it on what might be his finest album, "Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely." I bought it after I read a review where his son said the album was "so sad it should only be available by prescription."

When I want rain, I get sunny weather
I'm just as blue as the sky
Since love is gone, can't pull myself together
Guess I'll hang my tears out to dry.

Robyn, there was a mention of the boyfriend named "Satan", I thought that was the name of your ex boyfriend! Did you two date the same guy?

Godsmack's "Whatever" is a pretty good breakup song:

"You better f***in' go away."

-am in phase one one of broken heart recovery. -surfing aroung for songs that help me me on (and not with a bullet, mind you)

frankly i came to steal, but i'll leave a little something, just in case you need to bail on a bad relationship with a kicky beat.

the primitives "way behind me" and "stop killing me"
