 Posted: 01.23.2003 Smothered and covered
Angel just made me squeal like a little girl. She pointed out the following from Sonic's site: To celebrate our 50th year, we're bringing back some all-time favorites, like our one-of-a-kind Pickle-O's™! You'll love these sliced dill pickles made crispy and perfect for dipping. Available for a limited time only at participating locations.Laugh at us all you want -- those who have eaten Pickle-O's KNOW what I'm talkin' 'bout. And to date, the only place to still get them has been Classic 50s Drive-In in Norman, Oklahoma. I haven't had them in over two years. Screw Todd's ticker... If our Sonic is in on this promotion, we're eating there every night for a week. It's a moral imperative. P.S. If you think the concept of fried pickles is bad, I should also add that we eat them covered with cheese. Oh yeah, baby! Oh, I LOVE fried pickles too. But the only place I know of around here that has them only makes fried pickle spears. Still, massively yummy. But I've only ever had them with ranch dressing.¤ ¤ credit: Tracy | 01.23.03 at 10:47 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ I ate Pickle-O's all the time growing up!! I love them and was so depressed when Sonic stopped selling them here! I just hope they show up soon because I'm getting HUNGRY! ;)¤ ¤ credit: Angel | 01.23.03 at 11:10 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ we have a Sonic right next to my house... don't think it's the classic 50's one... but i'd take a gander at some fried pickles. sounds tasty!¤ ¤ credit: Kathy | 01.23.03 at 11:34 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ Oh Classic 50s isn't a part of Sonic. They look very similar, but there's only one -- and it's at OU. They never quit serving Pickle-O's (thank god). Classic 50s is muuuuuuch better, but Sonic helps us in our time of need.
-this ¤ ¤ Oh my GOD that sounds good. Hey, when I come down to collect my 1000th comment prize will you throw in a bag of those hot mamas?¤ ¤ credit: Bill | 01.24.03 at 12:32 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ I just wanted you to know - since I originally found the idea appalling - that I had deep fried pickles here not long ago at a little sandwich joint in town, and they were AMAZING. I will definitely be heading to our Sonic to have some of these!¤ ¤ credit: Cheryl | 01.24.03 at 12:32 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ We've got Sonic as far north as Iowa! Bring it on. Fried foods are the nectar of the gods! Adding cheese is like adding ambrosia!¤ ¤ credit: BillH | 01.24.03 at 01:30 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ Ok, I'm taking your word for it that the Sonic version is good. I mean I ♥ fried dill pickles more than words can express so this is superfly big deal here. Trivia - in Kentucky they call them Frickles (Fried pickles) & eat them on hamburgers. It was one of the first things that made me not hate Louisville. :) Still not as good as the Mississippi style ones from my childhood, but good.¤ ¤ credit: Cis | 01.24.03 at 01:40 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ My jealousy knows no bounds, you guys. Alas, there is no shining beacon of battered goodness in the Pacific Northwest...¤ ¤ credit: Susan | 01.24.03 at 03:01 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ Gotta go to Denver... there's a cajun restaurant that serves fried pickles with fried aligator tail! Don't knock it till you try it!¤ ¤ credit: mitch | 01.24.03 at 10:41 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ Come up to MA for a Visit and I will take you to this amazing restarunt that has Fried Pickels that are TO DIE FOR!! (wow, i sounded like a chick there :-/ )¤ ¤ credit: Paul | 01.24.03 at 01:13 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ NIFTY 50's @ happy hour rocks my world! I am still mad at sonic for building right next door to my beloved nifty's tho :|¤ ¤ credit: meredith | 01.24.03 at 03:38 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ I'm sorry, did you say cheese covered fried pickles? Good gravy.¤ ¤ credit: Lunchbox | 01.24.03 at 04:03 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ Yeah...baby! Extra cheese is the ONLY way to go! Think of fried jalapeno poppers -- same great taste, without the jalapeno. :-)¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 01.24.03 at 04:33 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ You have no idea how jealous I am that you live in the Land O' Sonic. sigh. Eat many Pickle-O's for me, ok?¤ ¤ credit: skits | 01.24.03 at 05:17 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ Mmmm, fried pickles. I love them so... like Tracy, I've only had them with ranch dressing. However, the think I miss most about Iowa food is cheese balls. Deep-fried cheddar cheese curds. (Like California is going to have something as sinful as that?!) Awwwww yeah. I don't think I've ever seen them in any other state. They'll make a believer out of you, I promise. My cousin from Texas always wanted to go get some whenever she visited, because they didn't have them where she lived...¤ ¤ credit: Gretchen | 01.24.03 at 05:56 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ MMM, Classic 50's. I worship there several times a week. Right now Classic's and the Sonic next door are having a Pickle-O war.¤ ¤ credit: Miranda | 01.24.03 at 06:55 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ My friend Angela and I have been to Sonic several times and we didn't really know what to make of the Pickle-O's. We were debating how nasty they'd be if we tried them. But now I'm intrigued, might have to try some!¤ ¤ credit: Danielle | 01.25.03 at 12:01 AM | link- -this ¤ ¤ ooh. we get our fried pickles at Razzoo's. I love them! Although, I have had fried pickles somewhere else, and they were not good. So it is safe to say that not everyone fries up a good pickle.¤ ¤ credit: Camille | 01.25.03 at 02:01 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤ The Pickle-Os are ok, but the Fried Pickles at Black-eyed Pea are SOOOOOOOO good that the Picle-O's didn't really do it for me. So I ate my chili pie and headed to Sephora to shop to make up for it!¤ ¤ credit: Christine | 01.25.03 at 10:53 PM | link- -this ¤ ¤
