...and the last shall be first
Well we just thought Paul's new wife was turning him into an ass with his kids. Now his ego has spread into Beatles history as well. Paul is rewriting the credits on several Beatles songs from "Lennon-McCartney" (as it's stood for years) to "Paul McCartney and John Lennon". I'm more proud than ever to be a Lennon fan when the pair are side-by-side on a shelf. Now if I could just do something about my husband's sick Wings fettish...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

*ducks* paul actually wrote most of the beatles songs on his own and always played second chair when credits were passed out. maybe he should have left it alone but if you had done something that millions of people worldwide knew and loved, wouldn't you want the credit and praises that were due you? Most people would want the rewards that are rightfully theirs.

Yes, but I wouldn't attempt to revise history either. That was an agreement made between the two of them when Lennon was alive. To change the terms after the fact (and after the death of one of them) lacks serious class, IMHO. But that's just me... ;-)

Live and let die already. With a little luck, they can make this whole damn thing work out. Just give it another day, my love...

hahahahahaha!!

actually, lennon and mccartney worked seperately from nearly the beginning. and in terms of stuff that was put on albums, they both were nearly equally represented. "lennon-mccartney" is in no way taking credit for what he wrote.

methinks that although paul needs to grow up a bit? the immature influence from his daugh.. oops, wife must be rubbing off...

Some history. On the first Beatles album, "Please Please Me" (1963) Paul and John's songs were credited to McCartney-Lennon. Shortly thereafter, John and Brian Epstein agreed, without Paul's consent that Lennon-McCartney sounded better, and switched the credits for subsequent recordings.

Secondly, this is not the first time Paul has done this. If you look at "Wings Over America", which was released in 1976, before John died, you'll see that the Beatles tracks are all credited to McCartney-Lennon, as is the case with the more recent "Back in the U.S." disc. To suggest that Paul has done this because John is dead and he can get away with it is, at best, disingenuous.

Finally, as C. states above, Paul and John frequently worked separately. It must grow tiring after more that thirty years to see your name listed second on a track like "Yesterday" which you singlehandedly composed.

My hostility is reserved for Yoko Ono. Why did she see the need to protest a credit change on songs John didn't have a hand in writing? If it wasn't a "big deal" that John was first, it shouldn't be a big deal that he's now listed second, and not for the first time.

Unfortunately, when John died, he became something of a martyr, who could do no wrong. Paul's just trying to defend his own legacy against a ghost. Sure he's ego may have something to do with it, but if I wrote "Hey Jude", "Let It Be", and "The Long And Winding Road" all by myself, I'd want the credits to indicate that.
