Let me show you the world in my eyes
Just an update to this post: If you want to listen to my LaunchCast station along with me, here's the address!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

With groups such as: Depeche Mode, Alanis, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, The Cure, The Ramones, and REM - it should be a rockin station. I love these groups! Especially - DM, The Cure and Green Day! Find some New Order and I'm set! :)

Now this is fun...hearing the same station 1000 miles apart!

This would make a great site like "I Wish You Wish" all the bloggers different stations!

Oh New Order is there, too, susan! I've been adding to my station as I can all afternoon. Here's the featured artist list thus far:

Weezer, Garbage, No Doubt, New Order, Better Than Ezra, Beastie Boys, Letters to Cleo, Violent Femmes, Pixies, Faith No More, Book of Love, Foo Fighters, White Stripes, Sarah McLachlan, Cake, Sheryl Crow, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Dr. Dre, Alanis, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Offspring, REM, Stone Temple Pilots, The Vines, They Might Be Giants, Blur, Salt 'n' Pepa, Ben Folds Five, Joy Division, The Police, Beck, Green Day, David Bowie, Crowded House, Elastica, The Smiths, Henry Rollins, Otis Redding, Eminem, The Ramones, Tori Amos, Elvis Costello.....and well, I'm at 97 total artists right now, so check out my station for more! ;-)

And more to be added as I have time...I still have to go through my CD and Winamp lists.

So, are we all hearing literally the same music at the same time? (E.g., at 6:25 Central time, Blue Monday by New Order just started on my machine...) Or, is this thing creating a different station for each of us (albeit all with the same general criteria that robyn set up)?

Anybody else use the Musicmatch version of this idea? It's free for the low-res version (you also have to download one of their free players), but their CD quality version is pretty cool beans (if you don't mind ponying up $30 for a year of service).

No, I don't believe we're hearing the same thing at the same time unfortunately -- just the station built on the criteria that I've set up. (Although I did get "Blue Monday" earlier, so you may be getting a delayed feed of what I've approved/nixed.)

Haven't tried Musicmatch yet. Sounds like music choices are finally growing on the 'net again!

If you really want to get bored sometime, read the provisions of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (the DMCA had more parts than the famous part they are using to trash folks like the Elcomsoft guys) which created all of the arcane ways that these musical jukebox services have to work within. (For example, they can't play the same artist more than X times in an hour, they can't give you any advance warning of the next <song> (although apparently telling you which <artist> is next is OK...), etc etc etc. Shows to go you what happens when old dudes in Washington try to tell the rest of us how to listen to music...

ooh... Gwen S is singing now! gotta run...
