icky icky puck-tang
Just a random thought before we retire for the evening... Where does that nasty, slimy, dusty mess on top of the refrigerator come from? It seems no matter how much or how often we clean it, it still comes back again. The rest of our kitchen doesn't look like that. (Or is it just us and now you know our secret shame?)

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

I'm 5' short. Do you really think I can see the top of the refrigerator?

Is your fridge close to your stove? The top of my refrigerator gets dusty, but nothing like the nasty and slimy grunge you described. It's quite possible your stove vent is not working properly as well.

I got the icky stuff, but not as bad as yours. A stepladder and some Lysol Kitchen Cleaner takes it away... What are you guys cooking in there that makes it so bad? Huh? *grin*

Okay, I've got lotsa dust, but nothing slimey.... did you store some potatoes up there that went bad?! ;) (don't try this at home, trust me, it was BAD under my sink for a while!!!)

I have the caked on dust problem. Like a feather duster doesn't work, ya need a rag and something wet on most surfaces. Especially countertops and desks. I'm not sure where it all comes from, but my counters upstairs are forever needing to be cleaned!!!

Robyn, I'm so sorry you were born tall, short people can't see it. Just always have short friends over to visit, and you'll be ok. That's the "mom" advice for today. :)

Nope -- fridge is a good 5' away from the stove (they're across the room from each other). It was the same way at our apartment, too -- I just make sure to clean up there often. Could be b/c we have 2 humans and 3 pets in this household though...and it's not so much the slimy (liquid cleaner just makes it appear so) as the "icky". And as sort of mentioned, I'm almost 5'11", so I probably just "see" it more. ;-)

Mine's not too bad...but on the other hand, I keep a lot of stuff up there, big things like the turkey roasting pan that won't fit anyplace else, a couple of large bowls, and a radio/CD player.

I'm tall, too...5'10", and I can see what goes on up there...every so often I take everything down and take some Lysol to it, just to keep it from getting gross.

But whenever I want to use the bowls or the turkey pan, I have to wash them...it's mostly cat hair and dust.

Kristine...I know exactly what you mean about rotten potatoes! Once I had some stashed in the back of a cabinet, and forgot about them. After a time, we started noticing all of these nasty little bugs, fruit flies or whatever...in trying to figure out where they were coming from, I discovered the bag of liquified potatoes. It was not a pretty sight!
