Fock Me Amadeus
File this under, "Yep. That'll do it Pokes!" From FARK, dated 02/03:

[OSU] Student Government Association senators Derek Davies and Paul Goeringer...are co-authors of an SGA (Student Government Association) recommendation that proposes to change the name of Oklahoma State University to The Oklahoma State University...

...Davies, an agricultural economics junior, said, "Well, we were all sitting around trying to think of ways to make OSU more prestigious and help us compete nationally better. We then looked at the examples of Ohio State and Penn State with their names while we were at an agricultural conference and thought that we could do that at OSU in order to put us more in the national light."

That's almost as brilliant as just renaming their stadium to Boone Pickens Stadium.

Of course, that would be even more amusing if OU hadn't renamed theirs "The Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium". Rock the Fock!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Do you ever sleep? ;)

We had a similar situation down here a few years back. The University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) thought they could increase their prestige (which was hovering around zero) by changing their name to the University of Louisiana.

All was fine until Northeastern Louisiana University (NLU) decided to call bullshit on that plan and said they wanted to be called University of Louisiana, too.

In the final compromise, both schools were renamed. They are now University of Louisiana Lafayette (ULL), and University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM).

The funny part is that everyone now jokingly calls UL Lafayette, who started the whole thing, "oooh-la-la", and they're wishing they could just go back to being USL.

A shy poke chimin' in here....Well, we were all sitting around trying to think of ways to make OSU more prestigious and help us compete nationally better Honestly, I think it is to more distinguish themselves (errr...ourselves) away from the a&g status...but then again I have no clue. All I care is I graduate in May. It can have Oklahoma State, The Oklahoma State, just as long as it say Judy Graduated College on the damn thing!

And speaking of Pokes...wtf happened last Saturday against the Cornhuskers?

It must be something about schools with the initials OSU as it is The Ohio State University. I do not know if the Scarlet & Gray OSU added "the" to sound more prestigious or just to make life difficult for those of us who write news stories.
