Such is the same in HI, where we call them "slippahs". I paid $70, which is really outrageous, I know, but I had to have them. I wear them to work, change into my heels while I'm in the office, and back into the "thongs" before I leave. I agree that dirty flip-flops and feet are super nasty, especially in the city, but I'm an expert at keepin em clean! I have no problem seeing them on commuters or people taking lunch al fresco, but you are only hurting yourself if you think they are business attire. Sad to say, that stuff still matters in most offices.
