Go white boy, go white boy, go!
Is it just me, or is there something really wrong with the way the world works when bloggers are able to raise only $1251.00 for breast cancer -- but bloggers can raise over $4000 for a high school doofus embarrassed that his light sabre choreography video circled the 'net without his knowledge or permission? I mean, don't get me wrong. I feel for the kid and all. Really I do. But $4K+ for a little teen angst? C'mon. I lived in a dorm full of geeks in college, and the most we ever got was a free t-shirt with a Visa application.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Yeah, I kind of felt the same way. If I do something stupid like that, can I get $4K too?

Hell yeah. On a good day, I make Lucille Ball look graceful.

It's amazing what touches people's hearts, you know? It sounds like those people know what it's like to be an outcast, and so they wish someone had been nice to them like that when something rotten like that happened to them in high school. And yet I have to ask... what did it really prove? $4,000 for an iPod, a 15 year old still feels the cruelty of adolescent, he'll still be the kid from the light saber video, and meanwhile $4,000 that could have fed people, helped find a cure for a disease, built a house... gone. I think what some of the organizations I've worked with could have done with $4,000... in Nicaragua, that could bring fresh water to an entire TOWN. Sigh.

On the other hand... if they could raise $4,000, there's no reason we can't raise $5,000. There's really just no reason in the world we can't.

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 05.22.03 at 06:38 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

so, is that what I gotta do? a stupid video and let it circulate? where's the camera baby? ;)

Dear oh dear. I remember seeing the tape. It ain't worth $4K. Let's kick some fundraising booty this year!!!! I'm warming the camera up as we speak!

if you're selling them on ebay, I want a cut, for mental anguish. Yvonne slipped roofies in my drink, I swear.

Yah, I'm pretty sure now that I should be filmed at all times. If he can get 4k for that then I figure I'll be a millionaire by the end of the month easy. My life is one "goofy-ass dance" after another.

I'll be helping however I can when the time comes. Except I don't have boobies, and I can't think of anything better than that. lol

Well, I hadn't thought about it that way, but...there's also the perspective that there are lots of people who donate to different breast cancer charities every day. This was one kid, at one point in time, that apparently a lot of people related to. So, yeah, the boobie-thon might have only raised $1200, but breast cancer charities around the country (and world) raise millions. I doubt this kid will ever see millions.

'Tis true. But it still seems skewed.

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 05.22.03 at 08:24 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Breast cancer charities may raise millions worldwide but alot more people are touched by this disease than by this video. Giving the little dork cash will make him feel better, but giving a few bucks to a charity can make much more difference.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I think it's RIGHT that they raised $4000 for this kid. But as far as more people being touched by breast cancer...I know about 50 people my entire office at work, and several of my friends were "dorks" growing up, and I only know maybe 3 people who've had breast cancer. Again, not saying it's in any way a better cause. I don't think ANYBODY..(well, except that one idiot)...who would say that breast cancer wasn't a great cause. I'm just sayin' there are a lot of us former dorks out there, who put up with the cool kids embarassing them, and who really feel for this kid. Despite the fact that he's taking it pretty well!

Must be the embarassment factor. The more humiliation YOU endure = mo money raised.

Example:
You fine ladies were all all too eager to show up and show off your racks (THANK YOU) :) = $1250.00

This po' sap did whatever in front of a camera (just glad we didn't see the rest of that tape) and he's probably gotten the sn%t kicked out of him at school for being such a dinkweed = $4000.00

So.. if you want Boobie-a-thon 2.0 to be that much more successful.. get the most uptight blogger chickie to slap on some leather and show us some moves.

Or, a new title:
Boobie-a-THONG

Love yas!

Well, at least he wasn't further humiliated by having a slew of news media across the globe cover the story of how a blog raised money for him...oh wait...
