To catch a thief
You might want to search for your blog in the first URL-search-box here. If it pulls up your blog, and your posts (as it did with both of ours), "anything but ordinary" has directions on how to block them.

Speaking of blocking, I helped Susan set up a 403 error page on her site tonight as well. (More info here.) Guess all the freaks are coming out of their winter hibernation...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Aaaah...the blocking thing worked! Thanks for the info and the link to fix it!

thanks for the tip on that site - no problems blocking them on my end. as soon as I did the ban on the IP, by blog didn't come up on that site. woo woo!

What exactly is that site?

I'm not really sure to be honest. Some kind of indexing site -- but not a newsfeed or anything. They grab your whole site (entries, graphics, etc.) They even made MeFi.

uhm..I know I've edited my htaccess before, but how do I block sites in there? I've only edited it to make a personalized 404 error page.

I blogged about this the other day -- Scripty Goddess has put together a great tutorial.

thank you Robyn :)

She says that she helped me, but in all actuality, she's the ruler of my blogiverse, so she did it all for me while reading creepy e-mail forwards. ;o) Thanks again, Robyn! You rock the Casbah.

I tried to do that, but all that happened was I closed down my site. Also, I can't see the .htaccess page when I upload it. I was able to remove it (I used shell access to do it -- but I still couldn't see it in the list before I removed it.) Now I can see my site again. It must be some server restriction.

well, it's creepy. What's creepiest is both of my kids have blogs and they have all of THEIR blog stuff as well.

Thanks for the heads up Robyn, now I just got to figure how to ban the ip's and make the page :o)

Andrea - it won't show up in a regular "ls" -- you have to do "ls -a" to see the files that start with a ".".

I guess there is not much we can do for those of us using free web space to host our blogs is there.

There's an interesting comment on Lionel Mandrake suggesting that it maybe a tool for enabling Palm access.

I don't know: I can't figure out how to surf on my Palm!

The reason it seems to have everyones blog is that it works like google....you type in the url...it finds your site. All this site does is compress your site so that it can be viewed on cell phones....it's just a utility....because some phones can't view sites that aren't formatted in a certain way. It's harmless. People should try translating the page before getting all frightened and blocking it. It's not stealing content at all....it's just like any other search engine.

Thank you for equating our intelligence with the french onion soup I had for dinner last night... People were not getting "all frightened". People saw that even the image paths were pointing to that server, implying not only was our content lifted and being broadcast -- so were our files. At the URL linked people are beginning to discover that it's a cleverly set up mirrored system (much more so than anonymizer.com's) to display the image paths. However, no one takes to their images being stored elsewhere lightly -- and I very much find that a reason to get my panties in a twist. But we thank you for playing Dogs...

i cant even see the site from work. our corporate web filter has it blocked as "adult content". why would that be? are there more milfs there? :)

They run porn banners at the top of the rebroadcasts...hence another reason so many others don't want it tied to their sites.

Lisa -- thanks! It's been a long time since I played around with Unix. (I kept trying to use "del" instead of "rm.") I forgot about "ls -a." Now I will see if I have an .htaccess file already in another folder -- maybe that was interfering or something?
