Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis
I tried to let all of her Scientology brainwashing slide, because she is The King's daughter after all -- and she was smart enough to lose Nicolas Cage. As such, I had high-hopes for Lisa Marie's first single "Lights Out" -- but in my opinion, it sounds like just about every other pre-packaged soulful pop song out there on the market. Not even her pedigree can save her from this one, I'm 'fraid. She's getting good reviews, but I'm not buying 'em. What's your opinion? I'd rate it an 8, but you can't dance to it...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Not altogether bad, not good either. She's no Elvis, that's for sure (yet). But perhaps her other stuff is okay? I haven't heard it.

However, I will say that this song would be really good if it were just kicked up a notch or two. It would have more of a rockabilly feel instead of this...whatever you'd call this.

My verdict? Could have been good with a little more tweaking.

I agree with you in that it sounds like the "studio". And there just isn't any passion in the song.

I didn't know her voice was that deep, you wouldn't know it to look at her. The song is good but lacking something....

I agree with the reviewers that her voice is a cross between Cher and Sheryl Crow, but until I hear her sing live -- and I mean LIVE, live, not lip sync, I'll reserve judgement on her talent. The question is, would she have gotten to record an album if she wasn't Lisa Marie Presley -- is her talent THAT good. My guess -- probably not.

i'm completely unimpressed. i wouldn't voluntarily listen to it again - put it that way;)

¤ ¤ credit: lor | 02.25.03 at 03:01 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

The voice is very deep and pseudo-soulful but I had a difficult time understanding every thing that she was singing.

I immediately thought of Sheryl Crow without the oomph. Could be better and is not terribly memorable. I would listen to it but it is not a song that would get stuck in my head :)

Her voice is very hard to pick out of the music and all the backing vocals and production, which makes me think she can't sing for shit. It's ordinary drivel that wouldn't sell if it didn't have Presley on it.

Why do they automatically think that just because you're the child of some famous singer, you can sing too? Same goes for Kelly Osborne. Yeesh.

yah. im not terribly impressed either.

there are two kinds of people in the world - People who like Elvis and people who like the Beatles. I am the latter.

It's not a bad song, but the mp3 artifacts are pretty overwhelming (like someone's playing with the treble or something). My cruddy laptop speakers are hardly helping ("harmon/kardon" or not).

At least it's not anywhere near as bad as Kelly Osborne. Gaaah!

Either way, Lisa Marie shouldn't expect my money; I think I've only bought 2 or 3 CDs since I got my satellite radio setup last fall.

I like it okay, I concur with your 8. I am interested to hear the rest and also read the lyrics, since she penned most of them.

As for Kelly Osbourne, she is adorable! And she sounds like the punk stuff her generation is pumping out. Love her.

p.s. I recommend going to watch the video at

VH1

It's better.

Hi Y'all! (:^)

IMHO "Lights Out" is a pretty good debut single, but not Lisa's best. I'd rate it a 7+. And I state this after having already heard three other songs off LMP's debut album.

The following link is provided by Capitol Records & allows one to listen to LMP's 4-track promo CD (i.e. SOB, The Road Between, Lights Out, Nobody Noticed It):

Peace & Love, Nadine

P.S. "SOB" is my personal favorite - with this one Lisa really proves that she can ROCK (reminds me of Pat Benatar at her best). Also, "Nobody Noticed It" b/c it is about her dad - just Lisa loud & clear (barely any accompaniment) & heartbreaking. JMHO.

IMHO...
the girl's trying to rock. who are we to say she shouldn't?

Like a few of the other posters, when I first heard Lisa Marie's debut single, I was instantly reminded of a (somewhat canned, almost stale) combination of Sheryl Crow and Cher. Lisa Marie does have a very deep, throaty, and soulful voice.

I don't agree that she's getting pre-release radio play solely because of her last name. That sort of behavior is reserved for the 15 minute fame seeker, talentless twit Kelly Osbourne.

Atleast Lisa Marie actually wrote her own lyrics and didn't try to lasso the fame posse by ripping apart an old Madonna song like the above mentioned Ms. Osbourne.

Remember kiddies (especially Kelly)...
just because you're born into a musical family it doesn't mean your musically gifted. Talent is NOT a birth right.

I give Lisa Marie two thumbs up for an impressive first effort.

I really like the Lisa-Marie song. It's very uplifting, and yeah, gher voice is deep, but it sounds great, like Cher & Toni Braxton.
The song has a great message, and i always picture myself singing with her on stage or something. She Does sound like her father some what, and CAN be as big as him. I believe in her.
GO LISA!
(By the way, joyeux belated aniversiare[happy belated b-day.) Salut!

And you know what,

I agree with Lisa, DON'T compare her to people like Sheryl Crow, 'cuz she's not. You guys really need to stop critizing so much. SHE is singing. SHE'S in the business. Not you.
You're right, Open Ears, who ARE we to say that that girl can't rock. She Can. Just watch the video. She even moves like her father. And we know where she got her sexy looks from.
I LOVE the single "Lights Out". It really explains her, and i can't wait to get the CD.
I wasn't reminded of anyone when i heard it; she's herself, and it sounds GREAT.
If on a scale from 1-10, i give the sigle a 10 and her, well, she doesn't need to be rated, does she? If, a 15. ROCK ON

¤ ¤ credit: Delante | 03.11.03 at 05:58 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

She's in the business because her last name is Presley. Don't lose sight of that. And if you put out art (yes, music is art) -- expect to have it criticized. It's as simple as that, nitwit. If she doesn't want to hear critical voices, I'd stick to singing in the shower if I were her...

Her father was AN AMERICAN IDOL. she isn't!

I cannot understand any of her words because the song and her voice is so digitalized.

She did an interview on Prime time TV and she could not even tell people about her song.

It is not enough to be the child of the KING, she has to build her OWN Kingdom with REAL talent and not just by the fact that she is Elvis' daughter.

This is my opinion. If you agree, or disagree, please let me know.

Million dollar looks and ten cents worth of talent. If she weren't Elvis' daughter, no one would look ate her and she and everyone else knows it! Stop the BS, Hollywood, and go on to someone who has REAL talent. She's just like her mother, The Hilton sisters and a million other of those Hollywood women with a famous MAN'S name; That's all they are and all they ever will be!

¤ ¤ credit: Ralph DeMattia | 05.09.03 at 05:44 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

She is Elvis' daughter!!! Of course, that's what got her the record deal! There is nothing spectacular about her voice or the song, "Lights Out"! She is like a novelty because of who she is. But, in all fairness, she is by far not the only one. Who would even have a second thought about signing Kelly Obbourne if it weren't for a) her Dad and b) the show on MTV? Who would care, period? And speaking of her, why oh why would someone with such limtied vocal talent as Kelly Osbourne entitle their album and first single, "Shut Up"? But you can't just site them for trying to make money. They are just like Britney Spears, Ashanti and above all, Jennifer Lopez who is a perfect example of what looks can get you.

corrections: Kelly Osbourne, limited vocal talent

you dwell on things too much. Get over it and move on

I like Kelly becayse she isn't afraid to be herself
