Gee, I really love you
Well we decided to screw the critics (no, not literally) and went to see "Just Married" for a date night. Although it wasn't the funniest romantic comedy I've ever seen -- it was cute -- and had several bust outloud laughing moments. Any movie that makes fun of the French gets two snaps in a circle from us. I really wish Brittany Murphy would eat more though. It seems she loses five more lbs. for every new role these days. In the next couple of years all that's gonna be left is a blonde mop and some hip-huggers... I took away the following three things from our evening out, in no particular order:

  1. Some parents just don't seem to get the fact that couples choose the 10:30 p.m. showing for a reason. These couples don't have kids. We don't want kids there. You either get a sitter, or you stay home and wait for the DVD. You do not show up with your infant and/or three year old and expect them to be on their best behavior by the time midnight rolls around. And you don't expect me not to give you the evil eye for putting the kid in that position in the first place. If they tend to throw hissies at home when it's time for bedtime, what makes the parents think in a crowded theater it's going to be any different?

  2. For every new release, be prepared for that group of five or six that roll in about twenty seconds 'til the previews start -- and stop on the main platform of the stadium theater expecting the seas of seats ahead to part just because they finally showed up. Then watch in amusement as they put their hands upon their hips incredulously, realizing their theory is blown and no one's moving just because we've all been graced with their presence at the last-minute.

  3. A really good quote (and yes, it made me sniffly and nostalgic): "You never see the hard times in a photo album. But they're the ones that carry you from one happy snapshot to the next." Expect that to be used in some form on Shutterblog soon.
Have a mah-velous weekend dah-lings! Two glorious days of football ahead...

UPDATE: Susan and Jason went to see "Just Married" tonight as well. Here's their review!

UPDATE 2: I was looking over the IMDB cast list for the movie because the blonde younger brother, who turned out to be Thad Luckinbill, looked familiar. I glanced down the page and saw "Young and the Restless". Oh yeah...he was J.T. But then I looked at the top of the page and saw birthdate (April 24, 1975) -- and then Enid, Oklahoma (where I lived from the 3rd thru 9th grade). And then I saw the name...Thad Luckinbill. It finally hit me. I went to church with him at Emmanual Baptist Church. I was friends with his older sister Susan. His other older sister Deanna was Miss Oklahoma. His parents lived literally 3 doors down from my grandparents -- I went to their house several times. And he graduated from the University of Oklahoma. <cue Twilight Zone music here>

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

A friend of mine went to see "Gangs of New York"...a late-night showing. She was appalled to see families with small children there.

The late hour was bad enough, but...why would anyone bring young children to see movies like that in the first place?

This is not a new thing. When I was a teenager, there was this trashy woman in our neighborhood who decided she wanted to see "The Godfather". Rather than pay for a sitter, she dragged her FIVE-YEAR-OLD son with her to the theater. That poor kid must have had nightmares for months!

Movie ratings exist for a reason, folks!

I saw "Just Married" last night too. I thought it was good. I've definitely seen much worse. And we had the huge group of late comers show up too! ha!

I've been trying to figure out for years why people take small children to late showings of movies. It can't be to let the kids watch; it must be because they couldn't find a sitter. But its gotta be the most completely inconsiderate thing you can do to a room full of strangers -- sort of like, "I'm not going to get to watch this movie and I'm going to make sure nobody else gets to watch it either!"

I hate stupid people.

I HATE it when people come late or just barely before the movie starts and then ask you to move, or to move your coats (when the theatre isn't sold out) just because they want to sit beside you. I mean I get there 20 min early to get the seats I want. I always say NO when asked to move. People don't know what to say then LOL. (who the hell does this kid think he is refuseing to move?) I even had a theatre employee ask me once to move in when the theatre was sold out because I my party didn't when they announced to move to the center. I told him no when he asked if we could move in. I said "No, we got her early enough to get the seats we wanted and we paid for them, so we're not moving, other people can sit in those seats that are empty.

I do have a good reason. I am deathly afraid of the dark and big crowds of people, so I always sit real near the exit and right on the end. If I can't do that, I don't see the movie.

Those late commers and children are such a pain.

When I'm really into a movie I don'T see or ear anything, but I've been working at a cinema 4 months about 2 years ago. It's midnight, you are tired, you are standing there earing people yell at you because popcorn is so damn expensive (like we, candygirls, fix up prices) and then there's this couple that tells you to hurry up because their movie has started. Not my fault, dude.

Then, you see those two kids with their so-called parents dragging them to see the late-show of whatever movie it was point their little nose at the food counter. Then, you have to explain to the same so-called parents that nooo, we don't sell or prepare anymore kid combos after 10h30.

The worst thing, is that it happenned soooo often.

You went to church with JT? [swoon] JT went to the University of Oklahoma? [swoon] I might have to lose my Longhorns now!!

I. love. JT.

Do you watch Y&R?

I don't watch Y&R much anymore (I probably haven't seen more than two episodes in the last six months), but I've watched it my whole life. And the whole "Glow by Jabot" thing with Billy, Mac, JT and Brianna aired back when we lived in St. Pete and Todd came home for lunch every day. So we both watched him then -- and I always thought he looked "familiar". But little did I know just why... Oh by the way, Zuly -- he has an identical twin brother, Trent! And he's is a lawyer for the Bush Administration.

Oh that's crazy! I knew he was from Oklahoma (alas, I have the guilty pleasure of watching Y & R since childhood...) but I had no idea from which town! You've had an early life brush with greatness, if you will. :o)

He has a twin? A lawyer in the Bush Administration?? That's good!! I have connections in the Administration. Except... they are UT connections... I can't use UT connections to facilitate an Oklahoma connection. That's bad.

It's a good thing I'm married. I'll just have to settle for JT and Colleen every other day at 12:30. [swoon] (I didn't watch Y&R until I got laid off in September... I'm a lifelong GH fan though...)
