Wanting, needing, waiting for you to justify my love
Jessica, just for the record (to agree with you), I went and looked up all the old posts on the boobie page. In less than 24 hours -- before the link was "public" and was just being passed around to friends basically, we had made over $225. Then less than 24 hours after that, we were already up to over $400 (this was about 41 hours into things and long before we'd been FARKed, Metafiltered, Blogdexed, etc.). After I woke up and went through the donation totals the next day (Friday, one week ago) and we were hitting a half-grand, I realized we were onto something. At that point we had much more than the plane ticket would ultimately cost ($359 with tax). I could have folded and bought the ticket and used the rest for beer money. But I didn't. I kicked the campagin into even higher gear and asked people to pick a charity. I put in 12-14 hour days for four days straight with the website, photo submissions, and taking donations. I didn't quit. I worked HARDER. I'd seen how generous people had been with their money when I'd asked, and I tried to be just as much so with my time and effort when they responded. I was always raised that if someone helps you in your time of need (whether or not you feel Statia really "needed" that plane ticket -- others did, others paid, and you can take that up with each of them) then you give right back to someone less fortunate. The Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation was chosen.

I guess it's silly that I feel the need to justify myself over and over when so many people seemed to then, and still do, "get it". But if just one person can see this entry-- see that it started off as FRIENDS helping A FRIEND (and was a JOKE no less) -- and also see that when we realized we were actually making money we quickly made sure it went to the right place -- well then I guess it was worth it to hash and rehash myself just one more time.

Ask yourselves...did Karyn do THAT? I'm not trying to continually brag on all we've accomplished (but everyone deserves the credit they helped us achieve). Did Karyn turn around and give over 3.45 times what she made to charity (which would have been $69,000 for those without calculators) the INSTANT she raised her twenty grand? Didn't think so... Call it the same all you want. Karyn made bad spending choices, got in enormous debt, and asked total strangers to fix it for her before her creditors came-a collecting. Statia had bad things happen to her through no choice of her own, I asked her friends for a hand-up on her behalf without her knowledge, and her life would not have been different one tiny bit if she'd stayed in Philadelphia for Thanksgiving. It might have been more lonely. But it wouldn't have prevented her from buying a house for six years.

And with that, I'm done with it. If you want to disagree -- fine. That's your right. If you want to call us evil, or whores, or prostitutes, tell us we need jiz-moppers again, or whatever negative term you can think of with the help of a thesaurus or a copy of Penthouse -- fine. It's your right. Just get off your asses and put your money where your big mouths are. That's all I ask. It only takes a mouse and a keyboard to complain. It takes blood, sweat, and tears to work towards a change. Believe me, I know. And I'll be doing it all over again next October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Who's in?

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

P.S. Once again, thanks to everyone for their support, word of mouth, links, and donations. Each and every one of the above were appreciated equally!

Sign me up for next year. If I wasn't so broke I would have pumped a few Canadian bucks into the fund, but perhaps next October won't be so bleak. But, I can always donate the twins for the cause.

I WILL be in next year Robyn!!! The change in the account is what did it...It will all be fine next year and what I said in the last email still stands!!!

Great idea you guys, this is what happens when a bunch of friends help out another and go above and beyond... I hope that you have a great time...

Hey, don't you have this whole, big Annual Dress contest that kicks off every October? Didn't I read an interview once where you said that was lot's of work? How about you kick off the Boob-A-Thon in September so the money can be donated in October? (And it's one less month we have to wait for boobies) Boob Of The Month anyone? Please, please, please, please, please don't let it end. Please? Although, maybe it should before this newlywed gets his ass kicked before his one month anniversary.

Robyn, I just want to say that I think what all you ladies have done here is simply wonderful. I originally donated a few bucks on a lark cuz I hate to think of anyone spending T'giving alone (and hell, there are probably going to be pictures of party!), but as someone who lost his mother to breast cancer a couple of years ago, I couldn't have been happier when I saw how you had turned this into an opportunity to support a worthy cause.

Would could be more appropriate than celebrating boobies for breast cancer research?

I think you handled the whole thing in a classy and non-offensive way, and I commend you for it.

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone is giving you all a hard time about this. Some people's lives are so pitiful that they have nothing else to do I suppose.

If I can do anything at all to help with next year's effort, please feel free to contact me.

Me! I'll do whatever it takes.

Robyn, I hate that you feel the need to justify yourself, I am so sorry that people took this all in the wrong way, and become catty, unfriendly and darn right mean.
You did a wonderful thing here and you shouldn't feel the need to justify it. I for one am grateful for what you, and all those who helped did. Thank you, so very, very muchly!

I took a PC break last night and missed all this. I cannot believe the sheer stupidity of some people. I read that asshole Parker's crap, and thought my head was going to explode!

If truth be told, I doubt that a single person that donated money did so just to get a peek at any of these ladies' breasts (no offense, ladies). Just look at the list! How many people came up with the $50 after the "special offer" deals? Anyone? Even if they did, I'll bet anything they didn't donate that much just for that (no offense, Goddess).

Every single person on this list from the lowly Solonor to the holy Hosting Matters gave this money either because they thought it was a nice birthday present/Thanksgiving gift for Robyn and Statia OR to give to charity. OR BOTH!!

I have to go back to bed, my brain hurts.

Way to go kids....you did good.

Count me in again for next year, Robyn.

You said it all, and you said it well! For those small minded people out there, just let it go. I can't wait for next year to donate as well (sorry I didn't this year), and I am glad that someone can spend a holiday with people that care for each other, what is so wrong with that? And to everyone that donated boobies and money and support, you are all awesome!! LETS look at the big picture - more money was raised to help women and breast cancer, no woman should ever say a negative comment about that - someday they may look back and be thankful for the boobies - it may someday save a life. Every single penny counts - thats the bottom line.

You already know I'm there in October '03!

I'll be there, and I just might contribute my boobies, too.

Bill I actually work harder in September -- d'oh! That's when I'm designing the site itself and getting everything online and tested to make sure it's smooth sailing in October. It will never be "easy", but always worth it. :-)

Congrats Robyn :) You've done a wonderful, wonderful thing for two causes. In 10 days you made sure a friend wouldn't be alone on a holiday (being alone blows) and you helped raise over $1200 for breast cancer research. That is an amazing thing.

Count me in for next year. Whatever you need. You go girl. :)

Hey... I think you did a good thing here, but I also think you're wasting your time on the naysayers. Personally, I tend to ignore people who cry me down for things I do that they don't like. It pisses them off much more. I say, don't give them even 30 seconds of your time.

i'm in! it was a great idea, and a great cause. how annoying that people are still bitching about it all.
