Posted: 10.28.2002 Faking fall  After a trip to Pier 1, Eastern Standard Time is just a wee bit easier to deal with. The only way we can recreate "autumn" here in the Sunshine State is by sense of smell. Tomorrow's forecast is 87° and muggy. Sigh. Now winter...you can keep that to yourselves, thank you very much. But I'd love to see the turning leaves and actually need a sweatshirt right about now.  I have a feeling that I'd be a bit more comfy in your muggy weather - the next two nights are supposed to get down to 25 already! Here is one way to make your house smell REALLY good and autumn like without candles. in a small saucepan add: 1 cup hot water Bring to a boil and then turn stove off OR simmer on low [be careful not to let it sit too long or the water will evaporate and the spices will stick to the pan!
