Just another manic Monday...wish it were Sunday...
Todd is home sick from work today so we've done a whole lot of nuthin'. I took Christine M.'s advice last week and joined NetFlix.com (they're doing a free trial with the code "Friend") -- and the first batch of DVDs showed up today and Saturday. When the free trial expires, one thing they don't really publicize on the main page of their site is that you can bust back the "standard" plan (unlimited rentals of 3 DVDs at a time for $19.95/month) to a smaller plan of 2 DVDs at a time for $13.95/month. I think we're going to go with that one. With just the two of us, two at a time will work just fine.

I think the best discovery is that you don't pay to return the DVDs after you've watched them. They include a postage-paid envelope. You just pop the DVD back in and send it right back for free. After you add up just two DVD rentals at Blockbuster, plus the late fees we always seem to get slammed with -- $13.95 a month is quite the bargain. And we can get all the DVDs we can view and ship back each month for that price, instead of just two elsewhere. With Netflix there are no late fees. They hold other movies in a queue you create until you send the titles you currently have back. Once you check them back in, they send you the next item(s) on your list. And it just costs the one flat-fee per month of the rental plan you pick.

We just finished watching "Rush Hour 2". It was funny, but not as much as the first one. It really started to drag in parts and I actually found myself starting to file my nails -- not a good sign I guess. I'm makin' enchiladas cha cha cha for dinner tonight, and then we're going to watch "The Usual Suspects". We haven't seen it since we were engaged waaaay back in '96, and both wanted to again. And I'll watch my third pick alone tomorrow -- "Chocolat". Another reason I'm so happy with Netflix...we can both rent stuff now that the other one would stand there kicking and screaming if we walked out of the video store with it...and it's guilt-free.

So there's my plug for Netflix as well. I think they're getting great feedback everywhere for a reason!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Oh, good! I am glad you are enjoying it so much! I have not set foot in a video store since I joined!

I also like that they have so many titles, more than you can find in ANY store (including the eternally evil Ballbuster Video). Mike wanted to see this ancient Buster Keaton movie, "The General" (it has trains in it, that's why, LOL!), and I looked for it on Netflix, and sure enough, they have it, and we got it. Way beyond cool!

No more waiting in line, no more rude clerks, and a MUCH better selection with no late fees...can't get any better than that! :-)

Yep. They rule. We signed up not too long after they opened and I still feel a sense of euphoria every time I pass by a Blockbuster and DON'T have to enter. You're gonna be hooked! :)

Thanks for the review of NetFlix! We've been thinking about joining them. The postage paid envelope is awesome!

I agree, Rush Hour 2 was not as good as the first :p

NetFlix rocks! I've been using them for over a year now and I tell you with the 4 DVD's out at a time plan I've got a nice little rotation going on.

With being out of work I've watched a ton. Plus they are local so it takes about 1 day for them to get the DVD from me and then 2 for me to get the next one! GREAT service and I'm saving a TON on late fees from BlockBuster!

netflix has always been good to us. we've had an account with them since 1999, and they've never given us troubles. in fact, one time a disc arrived obviously broken. i logged in to customer support, and they didn't hassle me even a bit--they just asked me to send it back and fill out a short form. i was worried they might claim i had broken the disc, and try to make me pay for it. but, no. they totally kicked ass.

The only glitch I've had with Netflix is that I once returned two movies in the same envelope. I was trying to save them some $$ on postage. Alas, they credited only one of the movies that went back. I emailed them and told them where they'd probably find the movie, etc., but they never replied and the movie is just noted as "lost." They rule.

Glad you've discovered the wonders of NEtflix...it's kick ass huh? If you like the Sopranos it's a good way to watch that too :)

I gave up renting stuff a long time ago -- now I just wait until I can buy it previously viewed. We can never seem to return anything within a week of when it was due, and with the late fees, well, it's just cheaper for us to buy it!

I've heard nothing but good things about them. I should check it out! Do you get any credit for referring a friend? Email me if you do!

Netflix is great! The only problem we've had with them is receiving damaged disks. They've been pretty good at shipping us a replacement right away though...

I have to agree with your assessment of Rush Hour 2. Not as funny as the first one. We've rented a few oldies but goodies recently. If you haven't seen it, I recommend "Woman on Top." It's charming (and NOT a porno, despite the name ;)!

I agree about Rush Hour 2- the first one was definately better. Also, I think the "Infinifilm" on the DVD was overhyped- I found it annoying to have to find the remote and then go to one of the selections. It was okay- but not great.

That Netflix thing sounds great! I wish it was available out here in Jamaica. Hey, I wonder if they'll sell me a franchise?

Hey, how do you back down to the 2 dvds @ $13.95 deal? I can't find details about that anywhere on the site. I want to sign up for the free trial, but then continue at the lower level. But the trial makes it look like you're renewed at $19.95.

I took your advice, and signed up. I LOVE it! I had planned on cancelling after the two weeks were up, I even entered it into my palm to remind me. This morning, I deleted the reminder, no way am I getting rid of it. It's too cool!

Andy, if you go into: Your account >> Change Your Rental Membership >> you can change how many DVDs you want at a time. Anywhere from 2 to 8 at a time. You can't change anything during the trial though.
