Strange days indeed
Hi, I'm Robyn. I have had stick-straight hair. I mean reeeeally stick-straight hair. I have never had a perm "take" a day in my life. Even expensive, fancy-schmancy salon perms. If they had money-back guarantees, I always got my money back. I have just enough American Indian in me to make my hair laugh in curlers' general directions. I curl it. It falls out. It's been an ongoing battle since I gave up the ponytails somewhere around early 1985. Moving to Florida's humidity didn't help things much.

So imagine my shock when one day, I take my hair out of the towel...let it air-dry...and it ends up looking somewhat like this. (No styling products or styling aids were used on my hair -- that is au naturel right there.) I snapped this photo in the mirror late last night for my mom so she could see what's going on.

It didn't happen overnight. I cut my hair super-short back in 1999 and my stylist noticed a lot of natural curl was sneaking in the back that she'd never seen before. But now, it's snuck around my entire head. I'm not sure what's going on...if it has something to do with turning 30 this fall or what...but I think I like it!

Where the hell was this when I needed it back in 1990 though?

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Hi Robyn, it's the florida weather. when I moved here 5 years ago, i had curly hair, but the weather here, oh my goodness! there isn't enough hair gel in the world to straighten it out now...lol
oh and uh, I have a new site. Raine is hosting me and I'm learning MT, finally. She's setting up my template and stuff now and I'm going to try to learn that skinning site trick. I love your blogs appearance. See ya =)

I had a friend in High School that had poker straight hair until she started taking a antibiotic...she ended up a few months later with wavy hair...hmmm?

Like Kat said, when I go to the tropics, Hawaii, Florida, Jamaica, Tahiti, etc., my hair does that. Granted, my hair has never been stick straight, but it does get more a lot more wavy than normal. Does your mommy have naturally wavy hair? Is it genetics? Either way, me likes. It's purty :)

If we had just moved here this year, I could see the tropical weather theory -- but we've lived here almost 5½ years now. My hair didn't make "the change" until earlier this year.

My Gma has curly hair, but my mom's is straight, too -- so is my sister's.

I did use a new anti-biotic twice this spring though. Interesting, Julie! Whatever it is, Todd loves it, too...whoo hoo!

Lucky girl! I wish my hair would do that. But I have your typically super straight asian hair...I don't think even living in Florida would change that!

Cool! I like it!! My hair is also stick straight but if I let it dry on it's own... waves! :)

Love your hair in the beach pic, but the bathing suit's a little skimpy, isn't it? ;-)

My hair sounds like it could be long-lost cousins with yours. It's fine and straight and I have every possible hair flaw that you could ever think of, including the ones mentioned before and a widow's peak (very predominent) and this horrible cowlick in the back of my head at the bottom of my hairline. So basically I just get up every morning, lick my hand, flatten it down, put on my hairpiece and out the door I go!

ok, so i after i checked out your hair pic (looks great, BTW), i looked at your short hair pic. i'm looking at the hair, right? nah, first (and only) thing i noticed was "damn, her rack looks huuuuge!"

actually, connecting the two thoughts, that reminds me of a shirt a female friend of mine had... it said something like "i'm having a bad hair day, so keep looking here" (the writing was, of course, all in the breast area). snicker.

amazing looking rack hair!! Such body....such verve....such how-you-say....

That is crazy! You know, it could be the antibiotics. Not that this is the same, but my aunt has MS and was going thru chemo treatments. Before she started, she had straight hair, which was salt & pepper in color. After the treatments, her hair grew back very black (darker than ever before) and very curly.

I have bad news. My hair gets body like that before it goes gray. Hopefully that's not the case though, because mine is just a hair here or there, not all over like that! I bet it's the antibiotics. (I hope.)

ok well there is where all my curls went I have always had curls my whole life!! I mean not waves I am talking shirly temple rings baby!! and now a few months ago it started going straighter to almost a wave now my hairstylist says it is because it's getting longer but heck I like it long and it's obviously benefiting you :) So glad I could share with you girlfriend :)

It's not really bad news in my case. I won't go grey as my hair is too blonde naturally -- I'll go white. And my beautician said it will be REALLY hard to distinguish from my natural-white-blonde and white hairs for quite a long time. It will actually have a "benefit" in making my hair appear more blonde when I go back to my real color.

All hail the Miracle Bra. And it was good! I want that shirt, mikey!

I'd say it's living in Florida ... whenever I go south, my normally straight hair kinks in 100 different directions. What I love though, was in the first picture, the incredulous look on your face. Priceless.

I've heard of the chemo-thing Camille mentioned. Supposedly after Chemo and after all hair is lost it is may change color, texture and/or thickness. But that isn't the case here...

*crusty old english teacher lecturing voice* 'It is a known scientific fact that hair will change as you grow/age, it can go from being black as night to blond/red, or vice versa, it can go from curly to straight or from stick stright to wavy.
Hair it is a strange untamable beast.'

my mom had straight hair until she had her third child, now it's as curly as can be!

I have wavy hair naturally and I love it... :)

well, here's "mom", and i remember when you spent 3 or more hours with your hair stylist trying to get your hair to curl for prom, it never did. she finally hair sprayed and pinned the curls in. took FOREVER. THIS IS TOO WIERD!! glad you like it though.

Robyn, are you OK? You look like you're completely petrified at what you're seeing in the mirror in the hair picture! ;) I guess you really DID mean "shock!"

Could be hormones... I found that my pretty straight hair started getting some wave a few years after puberty, and then the summer after I started birth control, whoo nelly! Okay, ummm... *looks around* *absorbs back into the bushes after realizing she has breached the TMI barrier*

¤ ¤ credit: Gretchen | 05.09.02 at 01:18 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Well Gretchen, I went off birth control last fall after being on it since 15 for "medical reasons" -- when we realized there was nothing to really "control" anymore post-surgery. ;-) So my hormones have definitely readjusted! I'm guessing that probably has to be it!

And oh yeah, shocked is the word! Just look at my mom's reaction... Maybe I could use that pic as a headshot for the next "I Know What You Did Last Summer" flick? *g*

it's age, AGE, i tell ya! the older i get the curlier i go! very freaky... but it's like havin' whole new hair with none of the work, yippee!!
