Do you wanna see me down on my knees?
Heads up -- there's another new skin to choose from! It's my first "guest skin", designed by Dave at Acerbia. It's supah-fly, so don't forget to check it out. Thanks Dave!

Also, Todd has tried all of the suggested fixes for the OS-X / IE 5.1 problem I've been having (originally outlined in this entry). Thank you so much to everyone who gave us suggestions to try and offered their trouble-shooting advice. Unfortunately we're still back where we started from. Anyone else wanna give it a whirl?

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Have you tried the new OmniWeb? I'm liking it alot.

Todd doesn't want to try other browswers 'til he's figured out what's up with IE 5.1 -- especially since we can't even get Opera to launch. The last comment here gives his status-update. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just wanted to make sure you read the email I just sent about this. It's the CSS used on [insert crashing site URL here] - not your system. I'm sure someone more knowledgable about CSS validating and IE 5.1 browser quirks with regards to CSS could tell you what the bad tag(s) are.

OmniWeb is terrible, by the way.

He just tried turning CSS off like suggested via e-mail, but imdb.com still crashes my browswer. :-\

The new beta of OmniWeb released on Wednesday is a real improvement. It hadn't worked well with CSS, but I'm using it right now, and it's doing a good job. Maybe I'm just biased against Microsoft products because they always seem to be the cause of my problems.

Good luck with the browser wars, and did you notice that Michele (a small victory) is getting married. Why are all the good ones taken?

Ah, so I can now use you to satiate my re-design cravings? Since I'm too lazy to skin my own site...

I will grant that i did not try the newest Omniweb, but as recently as two weeks ago the newest one couldn't even display half my (totally standards-based, no javascript, css-only) site. It just missed the entire sidebar with no indication that it existed. Eventually, i just blocked Omniweb. Not elegant, but I was willing to take the mild reader loss for the principle of using standards-compliant browsers.

Anyway, with OS X being so.... evil... to you, but always so good to me, I was wondering if maybe you'd installed over an indian burial ground, or some such. I hear that can cause file errors, and I'm fresh out of ideas, besides a vague feeling that the unix permissions are involved.

JKF, I can't access your site with IE 5.1 at all. I get a notice that the attempt to load has failed. I did get the browser snob referral when using OmniWeb, so I assume the server is working. Maybe the failure is just an odd blip, cause I've visited and enjoyed your site in the past.

Funny you should say that about the Indian burial ground, John -- I'm part Cherokee and Choctaw! I'm also known for having the worst luck with anything and everything. I don't hate OS X or my Mac. In fact I love both of them. A LOT. Better than Win 95/98/2K/XP and I'd never go back again. That said, it's still incredibly frustrating. But then again, deep down I feel that somehow Bill is doing this to me on purpose for turning traitor. I still can't believe it's not possible to reinstall the browswer like on Windows though -- and that you can't easily get to the browser software on the OS X CD. It...doesn't...make...sense.

I had an email with the same exact question. He said that it would crash his ever time. I wonder what the hell it is. Does Ben have any clue this is happening?
I don't wanna upgrade to OSX just yet, which pretty much sucks because I don't think I'll ever get to the bottom of this whole thing.

Oh....and if you're offering up your skinning chops....I could sure use a hottie....

Dave's skin is hot! I like it
