She's got Bette Davis eyes
Here's one for the girls out there... I'm in search of a beauty product, and I'll be your new best friend if you can find it for me. It's Jane Cosmetics' Brow Beaters tinted brow groomer in "naturally henna". To be honest, I'm not even sure if Jane still makes this -- I haven't needed it for several months. But now that I'm a redhead again, and the tube is nearly gone, I'm starting to panic. In the past I've only been able to find it at Wal Mart -- but recent searches at Wal Mart, Tarjhet, and Walgreen's have all left me empty-handed.

It's perfect for me for two reasons. One, my eyebrows are white-blonde and this not only puts them in place, it also tints them lightly to match my hair color. And two, when my white-blonde roots start poking out in between dye-jobs it works great as a quick touch-up product for my part-line. Bobbi Brown and Chanel have similar products that I will try if desperate -- but Jane's works great and comes in at about $13-20 less a tube. Biiiig difference, no?

So all this leads me to a sort of "meme" I guess... What five beauty-related products would send you running out to stockpile if you found they were discontinued tomorrow? They can be high-end and/or drugstore brands. If you answer in your blog, make sure to let us all know in my comments here -- and if possible, state your skin color and hair color as well. Thanks, and here are mine! (I have very fair skin. My natural hair color is blonde, and currently it's dyed medium-dark auburn.)

  1. NARS blush in Orgasm. Not just for the name but for the way it looks on my pale skin. It's a color that goes with everything.
  2. MAC Studio Fix in NW15. I live in south-central Florida. Liquid foundations are just not an option. And this doubles as a foundation and powder in one.
  3. MAC lipstick in Viva Glam II. It's the perfect neutral lipstick. Although it's a nude-pink in the tube -- it completely changes looks if I wear it over MAC's Spice lipliner or Chanel's Nude lipliner. (By the way, perfect doubles for MAC Spice and Chanel Nude are Wet 'N' Wild's #712 and #666, respectively).
  4. Stila "Pink Shine" lipgloss. It's a great little dot of shimmer to blot on the center of my bottom lip after I put on my lipstick. Perfect "pouty lips".
  5. Chanel Sculpting Mascara (Extreme Length brush). I have it in two colors and love them both. Bronze for when I'm a blonde. Copper for when I'm a redhead. I've never found an adequate substitute. It never clumps.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

very pale skin, dark brown hair, bluish-greenish eyes...
1. a revlon eyelash curler - long lashes, very straight!
2. dr. pepper lip smackers! most lipsticks shred my lips so i have chapsticks, of every flavor, all over the place!
3. wet 'n' wild lipliner #666. thee best neutral. i think i have at least 3 right now.
4. any dark-circles-under-the-eye concealer, preferrably a cream, not a waxy stick. haven't found the perfect one yet but these damn circles are hereditary! i'm not always as tired as i look!
5. st. ives vanilla body lotion. i love soft, smooth skin :)

ratty, I have problems with dark circles, too! Have you tried Jane's under-eye concealer in a wand? It's the best I've found so far -- high end or low end -- especially if you "warm" it up in your fingers first before applying. Another pretty good one is Ultima II's "Tighten Up, Brighten Up" eye cream / under eye concealer. It does a great job of "deflecting" light and making your undereye area seem brighter.

People may not realize it -- but Jane Cosmetics at Wal Mart, Target, etc., are made at the very same plant as Clinique. They are owned by Estée Lauder who also owns Clinique, Aveda, Aramis, Prescriptives, Origins, MAC, Stila, and Bobbi Brown. It's a great low-end brand to try out new looks and decide if it's even worth upgrading -- and I prefer a lot of their stuff to the high-end counterpart, not just for price, but because it's good quality.

max factor lipfinity in spiritual. that's it. well, kama sutra mint soap and clean and clear oil-free daily pore cleanser. does soap count as beauty-related? and pantene conditioner. i'm so lame.

the mac store in l.a. gives you a good discount if you have a sag card. and if you can't find your brow stuff, just for redheads might work for you...

I actually looked at "Just for Redheads" last night (I get their snail-mail catalog) -- but couldn't find a brow gel. Just a brow powder and stick. And since I use it to touch up my roots as well, I need a more mascara-like substance with a wand-applicator. Thanks for the tip though!

if i find that jane grooming gel, i'll get you some. and i'll get some for me too, if it's not too dark.

Thanks! It's actually not dark at all. I can't wear anything too dark as fair as my skin is. (I never, ever wear black mascara.) I'd classify it as light auburn, but with enough color to tint my eyebrows and make them go with the red -- and make my roots more "red" than blonde.

When I go out tomorrow, I will see if I can find any around here, and will let you know if I do! :)

I just added mine to my site!

I found the Jane site and saw no mention of your brow beaters. But if I make it to hi-school pharmacy (our local place that carries Janes) and see if they've got it :) Of course, that requires walking from my office up to the store. And I'm kinda thinking that the local stores wouldn't take too kindly to me holding on to the side of the buildings to hold myself up as I walk by LOL! So we'll see :giggle:

I have great plans to answer this question sometime in the middle of the night when I can't sleep ;) So check my site later LOL!

Up at my site - good poll! =)

LOL! This is a long time coming, but, as I was getting out of the shower this morning, I realized what cosmetic I could not live without: my Dead Sea body cream that my mom bought me during one of her Israel trips. It's made of the Dead Sea's salt and mud -- no other ingredients. It's like heaven on your skin.
