Here come those claws again
Ok, I feel like I can finally let loose on last night's Miss Oscar, since Mikey has opened the door. I griped about it briefly here, and not-so-briefly here, but hesitated to put it up front-and-center because people sometimes tend to have a short attention span and can't see through to the true core of a rant. Call me slightly paranoid after having the racist card thrown in my face more times than I care to count on my anti-Puffy site, I guess...

But now I'm just going to come out and say it. I don't give a flyin' flip if she is America's new sweetheart -- I can't stand Halle Berry. She's a bitch. Remember that little 'accident' she had back in 2000? I mean, how could you forget? She wore that stupid little butterfly band-aid on her brow for at least a month longer than the doctor prescribed. And for every interview she went on post-Golden Globes win, the interviewer would ask about the accident, and the bowels of hell were unleashed upon them. You see, it was quite fine to fret over Halle. To worry about Halle. To make sure she was ok. But that pompous bitch DARED you to even bring up the injured people she left behind. She was hurt. She was scared. She was bleeding and out of her mind. "She know not what she do." Ok, fine Halle. This was your first time and we all make mistakes, right? Oh wait, I'm sorry...this wasn't your first time?

Yes, that's right. Last night's darling apparently has poor driving skills but a really good flee-the-scene record. ANY OTHER citizen of this country would have their license revoked, their insurance cut, and their ass in jail. But not Miss Berry. Oh no, she gets the People 'Best Dressed' List. And I will give the woman credit. She knows how to select an evening gown -- unique to every occasion. And she looks damn good in them.

Before you try and get all "oh you're so racist and you just can't stand to see an African American woman win the first Oscar ever when you just wanted the pale, white redhead to take home the prize instead" on my ass -- I'd like to remind you that I am still bitching Whoopi didn't win the little golden man for "The Color Purple". Yes, still. I nearly leapt up out of my seat when Denzel snagged his Best Actor nod last night. I believe my exact words were, "It's about damned time!"

Halle Barry is a fake, and I have no doubt that one day Hollywood will finally figure this out. I dare you to watch any acceptance speech the woman has ever given back-to-back and then feel moved by the one she gave last night. Every reaction is the same. Yes, I got slammed in my comments earlier for comparing it to a Miss America "OHMYGOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU PICKED MEEEEE!" reaction. But did you see the woman when they panned in on her. She had to have watched at least one tape from Atlantic City for practice. Oh wait, nevermind. She just watched her last acceptance speech. My bad.

Oprah's speech about Halle's win moved me. Halle's did not. While I can't believe it took SEVENTY FOUR years to award an African American actress Hollywood's highest honors, I also can't believe Halle Berry is the one walking home with the goodie basket. Whoever her publicist is, give 'em a raise. (And whoever her stylist is, avoid friendships with Gwyneth's...)

I just hope that parents won't use Halle as a role model to their children. Because if they do, they are also teaching them that with a lot of money and a pretty face you can lawyer your way out of a hit-and-run -- and I don't care if you are an actress or a private citizen -- any way you slice it, it's just wrong. Still don't care? Then consider Mikey's closing words: "If she had hit you and fled the scene, would you be happy to see her win an Oscar?"

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Ok. But think... You have got to admit she can act. Maybe she deserves the Oscar, and maybe to have her license revoked/go to jail... If you're going to lock her up tho, I want to be the prison warder. I am having visions of all those female prison movies that I've seen. One of those scenes with Halle Berry would just about make my night :)

Re the racist card issue, well, you ought to be able to say you can't stand anyone, whether black or white. Pity that the way things have gone over the years, you have to think twice if the person is a member of a minority group.

If what you say is right, then her acting skills must be excellent, 'cause she has everybody fooled.

Oh I wouldn't say everybody...there's a small blog underground uniting now...

I didn't see "Monster's Ball" so I can't comment on her acting in it -- or whether or not I feel she deserved the award based on her performance in the film. I can say that I don't feel she deserved the 2002 Oscar, because I believe she should have been in jail during the making of the film, however.

Thank you Robyn! Michael & I were saying the same thing as we watched last night! We both HATE Halle Berry. I find her annoying & can't watch anything she does. She just drives me up a wall. It has nothing to do with her race. Just her the person & the actress. Others might think she is talented, but I just don't like her. Guess I am not in the minority. You can say you hate someone without it automatically being a racist thing. Why is that anyway? If someone doesn't like me I do not automatically assume it is because they hate red heads or Italians or Irish people.

Com'on now. If O.J. can buy his way out of a Murder 1 conviction surely we can't fault Miss Berry for wiggling out of a couple minor ol' hit and runs. She's practically a Saint in comparason, no? ;-)

Oh gads Les -- you did not just go THERE did you? At least The Juice's body of work pretty much stopped at the "Naked Gun" flicks. Oh wait...looking through his IMDB file, he went uncredited in "Natural Born Killers". Hmmmmm... I take it back. *waves wand* You never read any of this.

Ok, I loved her in Alex Haley's "Queen" (My name is Queen for oh so many reasons) but if I ever win an academy award, SHOOT ME the SECOND I start blubbering on stage like that.... jesus she made me cringe!

"In the Acceptance Speech catagory, The Oscar goes to..........ahhhem *cough*"

¤ ¤ credit: Queen | 03.25.02 at 11:23 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

oh come on now, you can't compare halle to OJ... nobody likes OJ. everybody loves halle. she's such a great actress, she's so pretty, yadda frickin yadda. she committed a felonious act (altho it was plea bargained down to a misdemeanor), and the bitch should be treated like a felon. i don't care how good of an actress she is...

and by the way, if she's such a great actress, why doesn't anyone believe that her speech was sincere?

WOW! I had no idea that people didn't like Halle Berry! I also had no idea that she had such a sordid history! Kudos to you guys for standing up for your beliefs... A side note: Gwyneth doesn't have a stylist; she supposedly does everything herself. Her track record was great until last night--I have never seen such a thin person look so fat!

Well not entirely true...Gwenyth has used Kevyn Aucoin in the past for hair and make-up to the tune of about $10-15K per hour. Although I shudder to think Kevyn would have let her out the door with that blacked-eye look she had goin' on last night!

i kinda like her, but i had forgotten about the accident, too. but i don't think you're being racist at all. i firmly believe in hating whoever you want, regardless of race color or creed, as long as it's justified.

kevyn doesn't really pick gwyenth's clothing though. i mean...come on. i want her mirror if she thought she looked good in that dress. also, you forget that kevyn's idol and favorite client is cher. if he lets her leave house like that i'm sure he didn't think twice about gwyenth's eyeliner.

as for halle, was it ever proven that she had previous hit and runs? that article didn't lead me to believe there was ever any proof. also, was there any proof she was drinking? because i also didn't see anything that said that. not that i'm trying to justify her actions. shit, i think there are MANY people who can show us that a pretty face and a high priced lawyer can get your way out of anything. halle berry sure as hell wasn't the first. the only person i can really think of that it didn't help was robert downey jr. and the only person he ever hurt is himself. then again, that is the legal system, she was only facing a maximum of one year to begin with. as sad as it may seem, a pretty face can get you a lot in this world. i sure know that first hand since mine is anything but. heh.

the fact is that she gave 110% in monster's ball and the other choices were pretty weak. judi dench was great, but iris is so depressing that it's hard to watch. the only other compitition was sissy spacek. i also do think she was truly emotional when she gave that speech (she even thanked her lawyer! haha). maybe because if that were me i'd be the same kind of basketcase over and over again because that is just how i am in real life. of course i also get a lot of flack for it too, because i honestly CAN'T control my emotions. people were saying the same thing about julia robert's speech last year. it seems like when anyone does get emotional people automatically roll their eyes or think it's an act. maybe she wasn't being sincere, maybe she was. who knows. i mean, it's just an awards show. it's hollywood. if she was being fake why does that shock anyone? is hollywood real to begin with? i just don't really feel the need to follow or care about their personal lives. whatever. i just watch the movies and like what i like.

then again, i'm pretty easy when it comes to forgiving people. especially those i don't know a thing about. none of us know halle, so whatever. i don't really feel the need to judge her. i'll just sit here and judge gwyenth paltrow's saggy breasts instead. it's much more fun.

Yes it was proven -- there was an out-of-court settlement for one that was on the records. An investigation then launched into two other previous ones, and I don't believe the validity has yet to be determined. Leaving the scene of one hit-and-run.....maybe. But she now has two on her record. (One as a settlement and one charged with a misdemeanor.)

and the only reason that fame didn't help RDJr. stay out of jail is because... well, he was caught wha, seven or eight times? or more? halle darling is only on two hit-n-runs, so until she hits a few more people, she'll be ok, right?

¤ ¤ credit: mikey | 03.27.02 at 03:08 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

oh yeah robyn. completely and utterly agree with you. yepyepyep!
