You think you can take me Santa?
Move over Claus...there's someone meatier... It appears that the Easter Bunny is gaining ground on Santa. "We are seeing a lot of pressure through marketing to begin to expect a level of present-giving that (kids) get at Christmas," said Chris Byrne, a New York toy consultant and editor of The Toy Report. Gee, I wonder where that pressure is coming from, Mr. Byrne? You couldn't be helping it along any for magazine sales, I'm sure...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Utter bullshit. As a parent, I reject it wholeheartedly. Toy and candy companies DO NOT determine what I give my children or when. Gods, this infuriates me. Parents, get off your lazy asses and take back the raising of your children from Barney, Pepsi and Hallmark.

Dude, what's up with Jesus getting the shaft for *both* of his major days?

Oh dear, don't get me started on how both Christmas and Easter are co-opted pagan holidays....

ya know, I saw an article in our local paper with this same idea in it. When did Easter start to be so commercial? When we were kids, we were lucky if we got a few chocolate easter eggs in a basket/tuperware container/etc. with grass in it!! Not presents like at Christmas!!! Goodness, how spoiled are the nations kids gonna be?

Co-opted pagan holidays or not, Christmas and Easter are celebrations of Jesus' birth and re-birth. So what if some guys many hundreds of years ago decided to relocate these celebrations to dates already taken? Besides, your religious beliefs aren't really the point of this discussion. Take Valentine's Day if you must have a holiday to complain about its downfall.

The commercialization of holidays is definitely worse year by year. An Easter basket with a small bit of candy in some plastic eggs is plenty, though definitely not a requirement. Toys? I don't think so. I just find it humorous how so many non-Christians quickly jump at the chance to celebrate a holiday if it means getting gifts. I'm surprised that Hannakah isn't more popular than it is, with the multiple days of gift giving and all... ;)
