Every thang’s gonna be all white!
Another link from Daypop that darn-near caused a spit-take: Team picks white man mascot to make point

"An intramural basketball team at the University of Northern Colorado called 'The Fighting Whities' is turning the tables on the Eaton mascot issue. Led by Solomon Little Owl, director of Native American Student Services at UNC, the team chose a white man as its mascot to raise awareness and understanding of stereotypes that some cultures endure..." Brilliant!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Fantastic! My high school team was called the "Redskins" and our logo was the ultimate stereotypical cartoon of an "Indian chief." We were constantly receiving letters from Native groups complaining that it was offensive, and most of the staff and student body complained wildly about "oversensitivity."

Thankfully we finally held a student referrendum and decided to change it to Ravens. As it turned out my university team was the Ravens, so it eased my transition and soothed my embarassment on behalf of my school.

My high school was the Rebels... it got changed to Raiders. They abused the confederate flag. Yet, another school within 35 minutes of ours continues to use Rebels. Even my friends who happen to be black spoke against dropping Rebels. Now, Frisco has a battle of their own (just north of Plano, TX where I live) because of "Coons." C'mon! It's a shortcut for racoons!

I just graduated in May from OCU (Oklahoma City University... don't hold it against me!) and their mascot until I was a junior was the "Chiefs". It was changed to the "Stars". Whatever. I get that it is offensive. The change was really not that big of a deal on campus. Actually, we all felt like we had been moved back to grade school! :)
