It was in front of a record crowd of 83,073 after the stadium expansion -- the most to ever witness a sporting event in the state of Oklahoma. The players took the field in throwback uniforms honoring the Bud Wilkinson teams of the late 1950s, the cheerleaders wore uniforms honoring teams from the 1940s, and the coaches wore outfits honoring the Barry Switzer teams of the 1970s and 1980s. OU opened the season No. 1 for the first time since Switzer's 1987 squad had the honors.
