Free your mind, and the rest will follow
You know, as long as I've been blogging, I'm still saddened / amazed there are intolerant people out there who can't stand to read any viewpoint but their own, whether or not they ultimately agree with it. Some of my favorite reads -- and friends -- are 'conservative' bloggers. And I have no plans on changing that.

I'd like to think I'm intelligent enough to separate the politics from the person behind them -- and to want to increase my knowledge of the world around me by learning about it, and trying to understand our different views regarding it. Pity others are not so liberated in their thought processes.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

No shit! I had the same problem today... I just deleted their comment. So how is that for letting them speak their mind?!?! LOL!

Maybe we don't share the same political opinion I still enjoy reading your blog very much :) I hate it when people try to force their (political) opion on someone. Just delete their posts if they are not nice :)

What a schmuck. I love the "dude, you're an idiot" right after, though. lol.

Do people not have anything better to do with their time than be intolerant of others? Jeez, he expects you to put up with his sorry right-wing ass, but he can't handle hearing your opinion for a nanosecond? *insert steam from ears here*

He may be eligible for the Golden Asshat award. ;)

I wonder if he's a born again christian as well? (apologies if I offend anyone) but EVERY born again I've met has made it their life's work to convert everyone they ever meet.

"before I found the lord, I was like you too, I'm so much happier now, let me show you the light"

The proper response to the above statement is: "Let me show you the door." =]

It's terrible some people can be so narrow minded. Not everyone thinks the same thing nor should they. Sometimes I enjoy a heated a debate but I also except the fact that everyone has their own opinion and don't take it personally if we dont agree.

Well I did cordially invite him to kiss my ass. ;-)

Hehe...

No one can ever say you aren't polite.

I disagree with your post about the cause of the current recession (there, I've said it - why doesn't anyone else call it what it is) but I could be wrong. Hell, guys with MBA's from Wharton can't agree on this stuff.

By the way, I'm a Christian ("born-again" being redundant). Sorry about saying "hell."

I enjoy your blog very much by the way.

Blogging about politics is a dangerous game. Kudos to those with the courage to speak their mind. I find that you can rarely (most likely never) change anyone's opinion on something they feel strongly on.

The best you can hope for is to have the other party understand your position and to agree to disagree. If you disagree with someone and have nothing constructive to say in responce it's just better to keep your damn mouth shut. I've discovered that prevents you having to eat foot later.

Hondo - what is your opinion of the current recession and what caused it. And, regardless of that, what do you think the GOP is currently doing to help the economy?

¤ ¤ credit: antibush | 07.07.03 at 09:10 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

There's a way to disagree without being a jackass. It's a pity not everyone can grasp the concept.

¤ ¤ credit: Nicole | 07.07.03 at 10:22 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Right on. You are so damn tolerant of other people's opinions that you're going to single them out and identify them to the rest of us, even though most people are asshats and their views on any topic correspond as such.

But that's all right. As long as you know that you're going to continue to put up with their ass-hat-edness (and thanks for letting us all know who this right winger is), I'll sleep better at night.

Thanks for continuing to enlighten. I'm off to go read the funny papers.

Damn, I knew I forgot to add International Asshole Day to the calendar this year. Thanks so much for reminding me, janedoe! Oh yeah, and anonymous comments are not allowed here. So welcome to your one and only.

Hondo, while I'm not a religious person, I have no problem with people being religious - I just have a problem with people ramming it down my throat, along with those with political views who think everyone should agree with them (and spend countless hours slinging insults when you don't see the light) and door to door salesmen ;)

¤ ¤ credit: Jessica Parker | 07.08.03 at 03:50 AM | link--this ¤ ¤

antibush: I believe that the seeds of what our economy has become were planted during the Reagan administration. Since then, no administration has really done anything to change the situation. The gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" continues to widen and the middle class, to the extent it still exists, is being marginalized politically and economically by both of the major parties. The economy is more controlled by the Federal Reserve than anything else right now and the stock market is nothing more than an exercise in mass psychology. As far as what can be done about it, hell, I don't know. Damn, I said hell again. Now I said damn too.

Jessica Parker: I do have a problem with people who are religious as opposed to people who have faith. As far as ramming things down other people's throats, some people are more sensitive than others on the receiving end and some people are more heavy handed than others on the giving end. Jesus did say to go out and preach the gospel to all nations. He also said that if someone wouldn't accept it that you did your duty and you need do nothing more. Jesus didn't get involved in politics in Judea and told people to love their enemies. The only people he ever insulted were hypocrites who had religion but didn't have faith.

Jessica, just a thought... You wouldn't notice all the "Born Again Christians" that don't try shove it down your throat, because they don't, you know? ;) I'm a Christian, for instance, but I refuse to force my beliefs on someone else. But due to the fact that I'm not trying to force it down someone's throat, it may not be overly obvious I am a Christian.

Food for thought.

You sure do seem to attract the nasty ones! People can just be so ridiculously stupid sometimes. I think someone already said it, but there are most definately ways to disagree without being a jerk. Someone needs to learn how to do that.

And Jessica, just a hello! from another Christian. Think you've met enough of us yet? :)

¤ ¤ credit: Sunidesus | 07.08.03 at 01:27 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

I'm a Christian as well, and have known Jessica for years. I honestly don't think she intended for her comments to be interpreted as they have been by some. :-)

I certainly have no problem with anyone with anyone's differing political/religious views. If presented the right way, sometimes I learn something new. Sometimes even change my mind as I look at it differently.

Of course certain sites harp on the same stuff, over and over... almost akin to either brainwashing or that the writer is trying to convince them selves of their own bullshit... now THAT makes me walk away with such a headache that I feel can only be relieved by jamming an icepick through my temples.

Fortunately this site is NOT one of them.
What, you say something political maybe after 20-25 fun posts?

Hondoi - lets stop this finger pointing or credit taking on behalf of both parties, because each of us can talk blue in the face and regurjitate facts from various sources. Rather, lets focus on what the GOP is doing *NOW* to try and help the bleak situation in our economy. Lets be honest about it to - just because stock prices aren't taking and quite honestly, using DJIA as an indicator, is slowing growing again. Even the a&p 500 is at decent levels. This of course does no good for those out of work. So the true test of a strong economy, the real inidcator is the unemployment rate. We are at 6.4 and rising. Again, what is the GOP doing to try and help create jobs or at the very least, stop the bleeding? (And the so called "tax breaks" don't count - $600 doesn't cover even half of most mortgages these days)
