Rescue me - your love has given me hope

"We are not a group of stupid, naive women," she said. "We are bright, intellectual, professional women. I can't tell you how much he wooed us with his words. He made us feel like goddesses, fairy princesses, Cinderellas. We had all found our Superman, our knight in shining armor." [link]

Therein lies the problem, dearie. Not so much that you've accepted a proposal from a married man you've never met, sight-unseen, off the Internet who's also proposed to at least 50 other women. It's the fact you're a grown 'intellectual' still buying into the theory of fairy princesses, Cinderella stories, Clark Kent swooping down from the heavens to rescue you from your self-imposed tower and ride off with you like a white knight on a steed...

Real, true love isn't like that. You have to work at it. It's not always perfect, with the sheets covered in rose petals. Champagne doesn't freely flow from all water faucets. You have to be able to walk through hell and back, hand in hand. God, I see the woman that raised me in the words above. I'm so lucky it never sunk in...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Thank you! Thank you so much for saying that! Amen!

You're absolutely right Robyn. You have to work hard at it. Before my wife and I were married we went through a lot of hard times together. My mother passed away in December of '01 and it was the worse thing ever. Jackie stood by me every step of the way. Theres been many bumps along the way but we've stuck it out. Love and Life is never perfect, and it's really what you make of it.

It is in facing the fact that life blows - and yet you have someone to face those aweful times (as well as the good ones) that true inner strength is made.

I have a friend like that. She hops from guy to guy, convinced that each one is prince charming, and then dumping them the slightest flaw proves that they're not. I keep telling her she's going to find herself old and alone if she keeps it up, but she wont listen. Oh well. You can't tell people anything. They've got to figure it out on their own.

just goes to show what i always say:

just because you're a professional (bright, intellectual, college-educated), it doesn't mean that you're smart.

Under all that shining armor, is a man who burps and farts. Same goes for Cinderella once she takes off her ball gown. Love is not a fairy tale. It's the tough times that make you appreciate the fairy tale moments. And the fairy tale moments that will carry you through the tough times.

That was the most honest thing I have read in a long time. You should go on tour. Actually, you could have your own reality show that is really based in reality. I'd watch!

love isn't a fairy tale. until they realize that, they will continue to be disappointed.

While I agree that love is HARD work and life is definately not a fairy tale, I must say these woman do deserve a little compassion. A close friend of mine was one of his 50 'girlfriends' and I have read 2 of the letters he sent. Imagine you are a 40 yr old, single woman who's made her career her life and this incredibly romantic man sweeps you off your feet and makes you believe you are the only one. She was only a 'girlfriend' with nothing but promises but she was deeply hurt. Not all the women were running about picking out wedding gowns, preparing to walk down the aisle with a man they'd never met. I'm sure many of them were not unlike my friend...waiting for him to come home from war so they could start really getting to know each other.
