Let's get physical
Have you ever noticed that in any exercise equipment or weight loss product commercial in the "before" shots the people are flabby and pasty white -- but in the "after" shots, suddenly not only are they thin and toned, but they're also sporting a new deep-dark tan just weeks later. Where did the tan come from? Does the product really do both? Because if so, I really might consider the purchase being my skin is translucent and all...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Sign me up as well - I could use a little pigment to my see through skin too!

Exactly why I am using a tanning salon before my business trips next month. I know I can't get rid of my flab by then but maybe if it's darker it won't look so bad!

Also, their skin is all shiny from all the Crisco they moisturize with ...maybe a side effect is to sit in an oven to get all brown and crispy.

Also, the companies use better lighting effects and the actors put on a great smile for the after portion...

The Taught & Tan.
It removes your tummy rolls and gives you a nice tropical skin tone.

I think the funniest commercial I saw for one of those fitness centers was the one where you could clearly see liposuction scars on the couple. Apparently the "sweat" from all of the "hard workouts" washed part of the make-up away.

Don't forget they also learn how to use make up and get a new hair do!! I always laugh too when I see the before photos, as they're in really unflattering clothes and taken front on. Then the after shots they're always dressed nicely in something black and slimming and the photos are taken on a slight angle. Scam, scam, scam, scam.

That said, I just did my 1 week weigh in for Weight Watchers and I lost a kilo!! and a whole inch off my waist. Yay team! Now where's my new hair do and my tan ;)

Robyn,

You must be talking about the "Body For Life" website: http://bodyforlife.com/finishers/2002/grand_champions.shtml

Prime examples of "before" and "after"!!!

Here's a hyperline so you don't have to paste the URL:

Ditto to what Jessica said, she just beat me to it. :) The Before photos also look like someone just took away their candy, favorite toys, and told them they had to take a nap during cartoons.

Wally Emery looks happy in the before photo.

I don't believe that those are all the same people. some of them are faked..they HAVE to be..

Have you also noticed that they are not interested in how many pounds people lose but what they end up looking like. I mean, if someone starts at say 350 pounds and loses 100 pounds they still are overweight at 250 but not near as bad. What they are interested in is the person who is 40 pounds overweight and loses 45 pounds. It's all about the package presentation.

I saw this one ad, for some diet pill that I forget the name of, that had a guy in it...the *before* picture showed him with a beer belly, and the *after* picture showed him with finely-toned *six-pack* abs. Don't tell me that these pills do THAT, too??? :-)

I've heard that these fitness companies use athletes for their before/after ads, not regular people. The athletes are generally slightly overweight, as someone else noticed, because they've had surgery or have temporarily fallen off the fitness bandwagon; now they're in some sort of recovery stage. Once better, the fitness companies pay the athletes to lose the weight with the assistance of their equipment or diet aids, but because they were in good shape to begin with, the athletes see fast and great results. Though I haven't yet found the online resource to support my belief here, to me, the before/after photos have always been a bit misleading.

They always look like completely different people: boob jobs, tanned, different hair color, hair style...ridiculous -- it's like hello I know they are 2 seperate people!

well, darker skin shows off definition more... oh, and the models? they're usually "coached" on how to pose.

and mariann's right... they always use athletes who are "off season".

Also notice that they always frown and slouch in the before photo and always have a huge smile and sit up straight in the after photo. Guess they're just so happy about losing weight!!
