April 19th
I can't believe it's been eight years. I also can't believe it took me 'til 6:30 p.m. to remember today was the anniversary. Promoguy has a lovely set of images from the Memorial. Go see them if you haven't already.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

I stopped there on my cross-country drive. Very sobering. Very sad. :(

Eight years... how my life has changed... I will never forget how my boyfriend just held me when I kept crying, "The babies, J, why would someone want to hurt the babies?"

I never thought I'd feel my heart torn out like that in communal grief again, and I still can't believe I was wrong.

Thanks for the reminder, Robyn.

I wonder if 9/11 will ever be at the back of our minds the way the Oklahoma City bombing is now. I mean, I remember it, I remember exactly where I was when I heard, I remember the feelings, but at any other time, all I could tell you was it was sometime in April. 9/11 is so burned into our consciousness, I don't think we'll ever forget that date.

The other thing is, I remember as a kid, when the Challenger blew up, people likening that to Kennedy being assasinated, that I would always remember where I was at that exact moment. I know have Challenger, the Oklahoma City boming, 9/11, and Columbia all bookmarked in my mind. Wish I could back to a time when I didn't have any "memorable" events like that.

I can remember where I was and what I felt for Challenger, OKC and Columbia but I could not give you an exact date. For me 911 will be different because I saw everything unfold real time on the TV and out my office building windows. You dont forget buildings crumbling before your eyes and then F-16's flying over head at very close range providing air cover. I think the events of that morning are forever burned into my memory, I can recall everything like it was yesterday.

I'm sure the same can be said for those people that witnessed the other tragedies first hand. But one thing is for sure they were all tragedies and are very sad. =[

Yea, I can't believe it has been that long. Thankfully the mastermind behind it all isn't here any more. I will have to say my prayers tonight for those family members affected by this tradegy.

Sure, the Murrah Federal building bombing was sad and should be remembered. But I find it worse that yesterday was the anniversary of the April 18, 1983 bombing on the Marines in Beirut, Lebanon. I don't know, 62 people killed, a few hundred injured. Guess the death toll wasn't high enough to remember or care about, after all, they were just Marines. I don't really blame individual people who weren't involved/related to the event. I probably blame the media most for just letting it pass.

Correction, April 18, 1983 was the bombing of the US embassy in beirut, the bombing against the marines themselves wasn't until October that year, it's not important anyway, nevermind. If was important someone would of remembered it.

John, my husband and I both lived in the Oklahoma City Metro area at the time of the bombing. His mother could feel the blast from her office building -- it knocked her out of her chair. The flags at my graduation from OU were still flying at half-staff. We had empty chairs for the graduates who would never make it across the stage, and a few surviving gradutes were in wheelchairs. It had a profound effect on us, and on our community. We still consider ourselves Oklahomans and are proud alumni of the University of Oklahoma. It doesn't mean other events aren't as important. It just means they didn't effect us so personally.

Wow, I guess we're getting on with things, I didn't remember until I read this. Hard to believe it's been that long.
