I've said it once before but it bears repeating
Ok, is someone trying to play the WWI card and kickstart somethin' here? (Brief history lesson for those goin' "huh?") Bad Serbians! Bad, bad!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

dude, that's some scary shit... can the world get any more unstable right now?

Well, it was more complicated than that. Austria was looking for a reason to go to war, and this was justification. But it also meant Russia had to declare war on Austria because of their alliance with Serbia. This brought Germany in, who was allied with Austria. This brought in France and GB, who were allied with Russia. And so on.
This is why most alliances were forged AFTER WW2 began for the most part, rather than before.

oh it most definitely can, Mikey. just you wait. it's not all that unusual, really. we've just been spoiled by relative peace in our short lifetimes. The world in general is constantly going through periods of turmoil and war, often much more severe than what we're seeing now. i dont get too worked up over it. as they say, this too shall pass. or maybe it wont, and we'll all die in a nuclear holocaust, right? either way, you can't do a hell of a lot about it, so just live your life. :)

Z., perhaps you've missed it in the past that my degree was in History? But thank you for the afternoon lesson...

i'm glad no one goes around looking for reasons to go to war today. man, that would suck.

Well, if it means war, then let's get to it! Remember the Lusitania!! We'll show those Huns a thing or two. Mademoiselle from Armentieres, parlez-vous...

SO whats the big friggin deal here? Worse thing to happen is that erradicate some corner of the world that no one realy cares about anyway. Correct me if im wrong, but aren't we going to be able to extract our necessary resources from Iraq with or with out Sadam and his people? If you feel otherwise or want to debate the issue further, send an email my way nhkanter@wisc.edu

You're quite right on the "let's get to it" part, Solonor. This has gone on long enough. Every day that this drags on, our country gets more polarized and more demoralized, and our relationships with our alleged allies deteriorates further. Not only that, there's no hope of the economic recovery restarting until we get this behind us. My portfolio is gettting massacred these days. It's time to shit or get off the pot here.

Yeah! Curse you, Red Baron! It's a long way to Berlin, but we'll get there!

Robyn, I am so glad that I'm not the only person who thought that today. OK, so it's not quite the same thing. But it's creepy. Makes me feel spooked.

Geez, this is surprising? This part of the world has been at war as long as history has been recorded. If they are not at war against some empire holding their land (Macedonia, Greece, Romans, Holy Roman Empire, Hitler, USSR) then they bicker amongst themselves. Clinton had the latest attempt to unify them and all we got is a bunch of casualties to show for it. They're still fighting. They'll need to settle their own differences; like kids on the playground, no teacher or principal will make them peaceful - they have to work it out on their own.

People, people, people...do you honestly think an entry with "Bad Serbians! Bad, bad!" in the content was penned with any hint of seriousness? Sheesh! ;-)

Oh and by the way, the discussion has immediately terminated because BillH has inadvertantly and nearly sort of invoked Godwin's Law with his mention of Hitler above.
