Up, up in the atmosphere
This is a link that Statia passed along earlier in the week. It's the only thing that kept me sane while Todd was flying to and from Minneapolis...

If you have anyone you love traveling across the country, visit FlyteComm. You can enter the airline and flight number, and they will take you to a real-time tracking system. It will show you just exactly where the plane is at on a map of the continental US, the altitude, flight speed, and time remaining for the flight. I had confirmation Todd's flights had landed a good 20 minutes before he was able to deplane and make the quick "I'm ok" call on the way to his next connection. Don't let them leave home without it!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Thanks for the link... It's perfect for when I fly out to San Francisco in a few weeks. :)

thetrip.com used to offer that as well. It rocked when Eddie was flying from wherever he was in Canada down to visit me, and I tracked him on his last flight down after he got his visa. I think he tracked me when I flew out there once too. The only thing that I don't like is that I expect flights to go in a straight line, and then I see a northwest-bound jet take a southern path, it freaked me out for a bit.

Yep, Todd's plane flew west going out of Minneapolis for awhile. I was like, "No! No! You're doing it all wrong. South. And east..." :-)

Yep, love FlyteComm! It's a sanity saver. I just used it this week to keep track of my husband's flight to Louisiana and back. :)

Of course this leads to conversations like,
"Why didn't you call when you landed Morgan?"
"Whatta ya mean? I'm calling you now aren't I?"
"Your plane landed a half hour ago!"

oh yes, i refresh this about 100 times an hour when someone i love is flying around. tonight kevin has to drive to tahoe and i wish there was a tracker that i could get for him. i need one of those gps devices that you can get for little kids to wear around their wrists.

i always feel crazy relief when i know they're on the ground. i did look up the stats though and there are more people killed every year by donkeys than by airplanes so i guess my fears are somewhat unfounded, but very real nonetheless. thanks for the link!
