War of the Roses

With all the hubub of the weekend, I never even got the chance to congratulate my Sooners for being invited to the Grandaddy of 'em All! That's right. The University of Oklahoma is Rose Bowl bound -- they'll be in Pasadena!

With 35 previous bowl games, Oklahoma ranks among the nation's elite football programs. But don't try selling the current Sooners on the fact that post-season play is in anyway old hat.

In fact, with a first-ever ticket to the Rose Bowl now officially stamped, OU administrators, coaches and players are downright giddy.

"This is an extraordinary and very rare opportunity for the University of Oklahoma," said athletics director Joe Castiglione. "Other than in last year's national championship scenario, this is the first time since 1941 that a team from a conference other than the Big Ten or Pacific Ten has been invited to play in the Rose Bowl. We are extremely honored to be in this position.

I can't believe the regular college football season is already at an end though. I'm seriously about to haul out the black and go into mourning. It just never lasts long enough. And I'm sorry folks (not that there's anything wrong with that) but golf and NASCAR just do NOT cut it. Sigh. Boomer Sooner!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Yeah, yeah – you going to watch my team (Michigan) kick the crap out of Florida (I hope) in the Outback bowl in Tampa on new years?

Yay! And I'll be able to watch it live this side of the pond, as we have just got a new satellite channel over here. North American Sports Network!

Can I be a Boomer now?

I'm in the Minority here...and my worst nightmare has come true.

Ohio State v. Miami. Ugh!

Oh Well, I said it earlier, and I'll stand by it, I wish it was OU. In fact this weekend at the game, I heard pretty much everyone in out tailgate tent say the same thing.

Go Canes!

Oh, I remember what I was gonna tell you! This morning in the paper, the headline on the sports page actually mentioned the Sooners!! I had a double take and had to actually skim to make sure it was your Sooners that they were talking about, and it was (I guess they are up against WA?) That's so cool that they get to go to the Rose Bowl for you, cuz I know how much you love seeing them anywhere :)

Go Sooners! We've just gone into basketball season now and having a great time.

John, the Buckeyes will give a good accounting of themselves (Go Blow, Canes!) Coach Tressle is not new to national championships having won 4 at Youngstown State (I know... don't start!) and played in two others, and that is with a real playoff system. Miami better have their get-go on because they won't run over the Buckeye D like some of the pansy schools they've played.

Go Hawks! I was kind of disappointed that they didn't get to go to the Rose Bowl - tradtionally the Rose Bowl has been Big 10 - but HEY! Orange Bowl! Probably similar to the disappointment you have, Robyn, that your Sooners don't get the Orange Bowl, traditionally Big 12 (or Big 8 depending upon your history). I guess all the Hawkeye Alumni teammates that make up the coaching staff (Bob Stoops, Mike Stoops, Chuck Long and Jonathan Hayes) will feel right at home in Pasadena! All of them played in at least one Rose Bowl. Good luck to the Sooners and GO Ohio State! What with OSU, Iowa and Michigan it looks like the Big 10 really is Big this year!

68 days, 4 hours, 25 minutes, 9 seconds till the green flag drops at Daytona...not that anyone is in withdrawals or anything.

So are you guys planning a trip to Cali or will you be around for New Years Day. If you're staying home I'll be there!

We won't be in Cali, but we already have out-of-town New Year's plans. Sorry!

Not a good weekend for Colorado football. The funny thing is now the Buffs season wil be longer than the Broncos who absolutely seem snakebit.

Congrats to the Sooners. Until we meet again.
