How 'bout them apples?
Just take a second to think about the name of the city where Washington State just went down. That's right baby! Now go Orangemen!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

PULLMAN!

Close... let's hope the Sooners get the cigar! After almost letting Pitt come back Thursday night The 'Canes deserve to lose to the 4-7 Orange Crush!

Talking about the Big East, how painful was it to watch the ND-Rutgers game today? I kept it on so I can explain poor defense to my son... 42-donut... ouch...

Yep, close -- but pronounced exactly the same! ;-)

Ok, I'm clueless here. Can someone fill me in, or do I have to start paying attention to the sports in order to have a clue about this post? *wink*

Heh, Christine. Washington State was ahead of OU in the BCS rankings. (They were #3 and we were #4 last week.) Ohio State, currently BCS #2, secured their trip to Tempe to play in the Fiesta Bowl today by beating Michigan and going 13-0 in the regular season (they are done for regular season play and their conference doesn't have a championship game) -- but the other team headed to Tempe is still up in the air.

Miami, currently BCS #1, has two regular season games left -- one against Syracuse (the Orangemen) and one against VA Tech. OU has a regular season game left against OSU and the Big XII title game against Colorado. If Miami should stumble in either of their last two games, and OU should win out, there's a chance OU could leapfrog the 'Canes and still play Ohio State in the National Championship game. That wouldn't have been possible if Washington State hadn't lost another game this season -- and tonight they lost to Washington after a triple-overtime, in Pullman, WA. The irony was not lost on us (both names pronounced the same). And that Washington State loss drops them out of the BCS top 3, moves OU up to the #3 slot, and still gives us a small slimer of hope...

As for this entry's title -- Washington plays Washington State for the "Apple Cup" bragging rights each year.

Well said! You should be on TV doing some sports show. Oh, yea your a chick - never mind.

BTW - I woke up this morning with no ill effects from my little drinking binge last night, other then my team losing – I hope they don’t drop to far…

Aaaaah... Thank you for that! *giggle* I needed a good sports update, and I couldn't find anything on the news to clue me in. Now I feel all better. Boomer Sooner! (That one was just for you, baby!)

That's ok Mittens -- I actually agreed with Andy Rooney somewhat. I don't mind chicks on the sideline discussing the game if that is in fact what they are discussing, but when they get all lovey-feely, human interesty (like "what love letter did John Lynch's wife stick in his gear bag today") I just want to wretch right along with most men in America. Of course, that said, it's still not as bad as Troy Aikman saying "and it's really a shame after a game like this that someone has to lose," during the Bucs/Carolina game...

As it turned out, Ohio State and Iowa didn't happen this year. It would have been a good game; both are tops in defense in the Big 10. Iowa has a better offense, though. I just hope the Hawks get into a BCS bowl - most people here are smellin' the roses!
