Stepping up to the virtual blackboard
Remember this entry yesterday? Well today my mother got me. She got me good -- and just a day later. Even with my guard up I fell for it hook, line and sink-ah. Because on this one, she claimed it was a friend who sent it to her. And in the e-mail, it was people they went to church with. The baby was in Texas. My mom's in Oklahoma. It seemed believable. But after asking a few friends on a private message board to pray (who also passed it along to their friends to pray), I decided a few hours later that perhaps I should look the story up.

And you guessed it. Although the story was true, it was in no way even remotely connected to my mother. Not to mention, the events took place in either late April or May of 2001. How do you officially ground your mother from her e-mail program? Now if you'll please excuse me, I need to grab some chalk and write...

I guess my first clue should have been that my mom was friends with someone who was friends with the girl who was warned by her Middle Eastern boyfriend to not go into shopping malls on Halloween last year, huh? Sigh. I love you mom, but it's time for an "E-mail 101" intervention. Unless of course you want to send me more boy pics!

my parents do the same thing with the forwards, but no boy pics. dammit. i just politely send them snopes links with every lost/sick child story and warn them about the 'forward this to everyone you know' thing, but they figure that just in case this one's not a hoax, well, what's the harm?
