Posted: 09.22.2002 SOLID GOLD! Putting rhythm in my soul...
The meeester and I are currently in another faux-spat. His blog has an entry about "guilty pleasures" -- movies you secretly like, yet others roll their eyes over. [start long and useless explanation] For us, it's "Dude, Where's My Car?" We were quite tipsy the first time we saw it, and everything was funny -- from the "dude...sweet" scene, to the bubble wrap suits, to the special treats and pudding. Because I refuse to play your Chinese food mind games.
And for me, it's "Grease 2". Before you start throwing things at me, I do not think it's better than the original. But just try to stop me from singing the "Reproduction" song! I want a cool rider. I'll be your girl for all seasons. The whole year through. However, I thought then, and I think now, that Adrian Zmed is icky. Yuck, nasty gross. My crush was on Michael. So when Statia secretly confessed that she likes Grease 2 as well, I sat here for a second wondering what else Adrian Zmed had been in...was it Solid Gold? No. Dance Fever? Yeah, that was it. [/end long and useless explanation] So then Mr. Pollman tries to tell me that he never watched Solid Gold and Dance Fever as a kid. Yeahhhh...right. What child of the 70s didn't watch them? The Solid Gold Dancers, c'mon! Hello. (Sure they're nasty looking now, but apparently everything in the late 70s / early 80s was nasty and we were just too young to realize it.) Raise your hand if you believe him... I feel so much better now... I'm not alone in this world. I thought I was the only one who liked Grease 2 (for inexplicable reasons) and kept her secret hidden from the world! ¤ ¤ credit: Mariann | 09.22.02 at 03:36 PM | link-I can't say that I've seen Grease 2, but Dude Where's My Car holds a special place in my heart as it was the first movie I saw with my girlfriend. I don't think there's anything wrong with "guilty pleasures" movies, sometimes you need a break from the seriousness of the world. My picks are usually the Die Hard series for some mind-numbing senseless violence, or to watch The Mask or Empire Records for the 700th time... ¤ ¤ credit: Joshua | 09.22.02 at 04:33 PM | link-Adrian Zmed was also in "T.J. Hooker" with William Shatner and Heather Locklear. ¤ ¤ credit: TJ | 09.22.02 at 04:58 PM | link-you're not calling him Mr. O'rourke-Pollman yet? ¤ ¤ credit: hoopty | 09.22.02 at 05:15 PM | link-I would never torture anyone like that purposely, hoopty. ;-) I was all too happy to give up the name! ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 09.22.02 at 05:31 PM | link-/me puts my hands firmly down by my side. I secretly loved Xanadu! ¤ ¤ credit: Jessica Parker | 09.22.02 at 05:44 PM | link-Oh, dear! I know every word to Grease 2! *hangs head in shame* lol! I admit it... I thought it was cool and I wanted to be Michelle Pfeiffer so bad!! And who didn't want to be a Solid Gold Dancer??! Come on!! lmao!!!! ¤ ¤ credit: christi | 09.22.02 at 05:47 PM | link-Oooh -- I loved Xanadu, too, Jessica! I so wanted to be a disco skate queen... ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 09.22.02 at 05:48 PM | link-*sniff* Christi, Rob, I love you guys. I have Xanadu on tape too. I think I had a crush on Olivia when I was little. [singing]Reproduction, Reproduction put your pollen tubes to work.... I got yer pistol right here[/singing] It must be a girl thing. ¤ ¤ credit: statia | 09.22.02 at 06:57 PM | link- LMAO! Awww! We love you too Statia! We'll have to get together and have a Grease 2 marathon! :) Hail to the Pink Ladies! lol!! ;) ¤ ¤ credit: christi | 09.22.02 at 07:24 PM | link-I used to watch Solid Gold each week. I used to take my tape player and record the songs that would make the top 10 list. I was so pathetic. Now who was your favorite host? Dionne Warwick, Rick Dees, or Marilyn McCoo? I like Rick Dees. I thought he was cool. ¤ ¤ credit: Whistler | 09.22.02 at 07:35 PM | link-Ooooh, I have to go with "D. None of the above" Whistler, and pick Andy Gibb. I loved Rick Dees though! Disco. Disco Duck. ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 09.22.02 at 08:00 PM | link-Did any of you guys ever watch "Puttin' On the Hits"? It was on between "Dance Fever" and "Solid Gold" where I was... priceless! ¤ ¤ credit: Meredith | 09.22.02 at 10:11 PM | link-My husband loves "Dude wheres my car", I think he has every line memorized by now. Zultan! ¤ ¤ credit: Not Me | 09.23.02 at 12:53 AM | link-Ok. I loved Xanadu. AND i was hopelessly addicted to "Puttin On the Hits" Never watched Solid Gold though-i may have been too young. ¤ ¤ credit: jen | 09.23.02 at 11:28 AM | link-The Solid Gold Dancers! Damn, you went back with that one. They were kinda scary looking to me. After seeing that web site it's confirmed. It's funny; someone was asking me to name the host of Dance Fever (Denny Terrio) just the other day. Guilty pleasure movie? Wow, I don't know. I love a lot of those kung fu drive-in movies that used to come on Saturday afternoons. It's too easy to say Showgirls so if I have to choose one it would be Under The Cherry Moon. I mean Graffiti Bridge is MUCH worst but it was during my "Prince is a musical genius" days. I actually know all the lines and every word to every song in the movie! Just wish it was out on DVD. I want a girl who's smart, a girl who can teach me things. I hate stupid women. You know why? You marry a stupid girl, you have stupid kids. You don't believe me? Follow a stupid kid home and see if somebody stupid don't answer the door... ¤ ¤ credit: popcorn | 09.23.02 at 05:03 PM | link-I love Grease2... I want a coooool rider, a cool cool cool cool rider, if he's cool enough he can burn me through and through woah oh a oh a! ¤ ¤ credit: NastyMike | 09.23.02 at 05:22 PM | link-i just wanted to say that i absolutely love grease2 and it has been my favourite film since i was about 2 !!!
