Dude, that is not cool
Two firms are suing the State of Florida over its website, saying the Bush administration stole ideas and designs. The latest suit has been filed by Winter Springs computer consultant Brent Gregory. He said his company is being muscled out of business by the state. He said the Web site known as MyFlorida.com has stolen information, page design and its overall concept from his own StateofFlorida.com site.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Hrm, normally, I'm the first person to get annoyed when someone steals another person's work, but looking at the two sites, I don't see much of a similarity at all. The only possible chance he has in court, as far as I can tell, is if he can prove that they've stolen information without crediting him. The designs are not even remotely similar and "concepts" are not copyrightable (thank goodness). In all honesty, this guy sounds like he's just trying to make money off the state more than anything else.

I'm with Ste - they don't look that similar to me. And heck, we can all whine about concepts being stolen.

It just occurred to me (yeah, I'm slow) that you guys suffer under a double whammy of TWO Bush Boys. I'm so sorry.

I don't think it's so much "just looking alike" after reading the article and seeing it on the news -- as it is the content and the way it's presented. A lot of the 'about' pages are written very similarly from what I've understood, and some of the menu listings are similar as well.

I'm sure Jeb had hands on involvement in the site's construction. ;) That jibe aside, I really do think this is going to be a problem as big companies and government agencies become aware of the vast web audience. Sites that have been around for years purely out of the enthusiasm and good will of a joe shmo like all of us should be rewarded for the follower base they have created instead of just being ripped off and ignored.

There are several Louisville information sites that aren't affiliated with the city that have been bullied out of "business" once the tourist bureau and other city agencies built their own sites. The worst part is these new official sites usually have less information and are just big advertising opportunities.
