I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
This article on MSNBC.com really struck a chord with a lot of readers. It deals with "wedding gown shopping and plus-sized brides". Thankfully I was the 'perfect size 6' back when I was wedding gown shopping myself -- but since then, there have been times when I was large enough just buying clothes in the mall (at size 12-14) that I can only imagine what these poor women are going through -- for what is supposed to be the happiest day of their lives. Only now that I'm back in 8-10s again do I truly feel "welcome" clothes shopping. If the average size in this country is 14-16, why isn't the average bride allowed to be that size as well? (Read the article, and the replies to it, at MSNBC.com.)

And an interesting footnote: The author of the above article also wrote an MSNBC.com article about our own wedding (and Wholly Matrimony!) last September.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

I was also lucky. I couldn't find my "dream gown" while looking through the endless magazines. So I came up with a design on my own and my sister made my dress for me. It turned out perfect. She even put a strap and buckle on my shoes to create my mary jane pumps!

My dress was not intended to be sold as a *wedding* dress...it came from a plus-size department of a regular department store. At first, we were going to have a more traditional wedding, and I wanted the white lacey thing (I didn't have it for my first marriage), but I knew what I would be in for by trying to shop at a bridal store. So I just skipped it.

Even though we ended up eloping, I wore it anyway.

Sometimes I wonder if these people think that women who are over a size six are so fat and ugly, that no man would want to marry them anyway. The truth is that most men prefer a woman with some meat on her bones.

Coming from the other side of the spectrum, I had a difficult time finding a dress that I could imagine myself in because all of the dresses that the stores held were for women who wore sizes 10-14, very rarely would I find an 8 or smaller. Since I'm only a size 4, straps on dresses were not proportioned for me so I would *imagine* myself in the dress. It was very difficult!

According to my experience, wedding dresses run small. I am 5'2" and weighed 114 on my wedding day and I needed a size 8 dress. :/

First of all, I am not fat, but I do have curves and have been "blessed" on top. FInding a wedding dress was one of the worst weeekends of my life. There is nothing worse than trying on your not dream dress because it doesn't come inyour size (in a 12) only to have the barely 20- something next to you try on the dress you have loved since birth in a 2. I think we need to do away with the whole size thing--no more numbers and no more small medium, large. Maybe instead cute, beutiful and gorgeous?

I was *so* thankful that I had a bridal shop here that had a huge range of sizes. It was a small shop and carried a lot of Jessica McClintock dresses - including a size 12 that fit me perfectly. (Then my Mom ended up making my dress. At least I got to try the style on first!)

They also carried a lot of "suit" style dresses, for people that were maybe having a second wedding, or were older and didn't want the fluffy white gown. I thought that was a good thing - you don't get that at your standard bridal store.

The other bridal stores? Nothing but size 6 and 8. And I should just "imagine" how I would look in it. Yeah, RIGHT. Walked out the door fast without even a second thought!

I got charged about 80 dollars more because I was a "plus size" at David's Bridal. It sucks ass....but at least they had my size..*shrug*

Being fat has its downsides. :)
