You say it's your birthday
We'd been married almost three months when I had a series of tests on my heart that darn-near killed me. (I was hooked up to a crash-cart during them.) Todd felt so sorry for me watching it all, that he promised me a puppy if I could just hang on. The next weekend, the same weekend Todd turned 24, we brought home Claire. (It's a family name. No really, Todd named her after Claire Danes.)

Our lives haven't been the same since. She's not just a Cocker. She was a human in a past life. Our dog tells jokes. Our dog snores like a 90-year old Jewish man. Our dog cheers with us when OU and the Bucs make touchdowns. Our dog doesn't just wag her tail -- she shakes her whole groove thang. Our dog is our child and she will melt the heart of anyone that meets her...even non-dog lovers. I'll put money on that. (Because I was a "cat person" myself until we got her.) So today, we both celebrate the sixth birthday of our little baby -- sometimes a lady, sometimes a tramp. (Just like mom.) But always our Claire. Carob-covered bones for everyone!

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Awwwww... what a sweetie! I love cocker spaniels, they are such sweethearts - but I think yours takes the cake!

One half of the reason that I come back to read your blog Robyn is the pictures. You manage to get some expressions that are just priceless ... the last one is just too cute! Happy Birthday Claire. Power to the puppy lovers!

Happy Birthday, you cute little fuzzdog! :-)

What adorable pictures! I had a cocker spaniel growing up, and my mom used to call him her favorite little boy in a fuzzy zippy-suit.

More importantly, she's a symbol that not only did you hold on, but you rock to this day. Go Robyn, go Robyn, it's Claire's birthday.......

Looks like all the Christines out there know where to ROCK! Party at Robyn's place, celebrating Claire's birthday! (Now we just need Kristine with a K to join in!) ROFL!

my god, Claire is so little in those first two pics; i thought it was a stuffed toy! cuuuuuute. Happy Birthday!

She was so tiny when we first got her, that I'd tuck her inside of my purse when we'd go shopping so she wouldn't be home alone! ;-) She's still pretty tiny as far as Cockers go though -- 16 lbs. The average is about 20-25 lbs. That's our baby!

I just love seeing photos of dogs and reading stories about dogs who truly are a part of the family. When James got up to make a coffee tonight, he came back to the loungeroom to find the dog in his spot ont he lounge so he just sat on the floor instead. Our 4 legged furry family member definately rules the roost around here. Happy Birthday Claire.

You are a God send!! I just spent 3 hours trying to find out who that hot guy in the 2001 VW commercial was, and google sniffed you out for me. Ah, Kevin Rahm...*swoon*

Awww, she is a cutie!! Reminds me of my "old fart" cocker spaniel who's turning 12 in July :)

Happy Birthday Clair...Robyn..I so understand how you both feel about Clair being a MAJOR part of your family...My dogs are my children too until we have kids in the future...but they are so much my life that I'm having a hard time dealing with leaving them for a week when I go visit my mom....

Gromit wants to know if she has a boyfriend......(I personally think he was turned on by the shaking of the ass comment, but who knows what makes him tick)

awww Happy Happy to Claire. ..(a family name...
*snort*)

that picture of her at the bottom, it kills me.
what a face!

See, you've gone and scared me to death with those pictures. I'm going to have to leave work now and it will be all Robyn's fault. For real. I have a Cocker Spaniel phobia. Maybe it stems from the scar I still have on my arm from where our neighbors highly unsocial and highly combustible little bundle of fur bit me years ago. *shudders* I can't go near a Cocker without wanting to run away. Them and their pointy little teeth! *runs away*

I don't know why, but I have never met a Cocker Spaniel that didn't have a "family name". My parents' Cocker was named Lady... Typical, yes, but when you realize that her full (and actual CKC Registered name) was Lady Jane VonBea, it doesn't sound so Disney. The other female from the same litter was Cassandra Ann VonBea.

She is so adorable....Happy Birthday Claire! BTW, how are Selina and Madeleine?

THAT'S MY GRANDBABY! Happy birthday to you Claire, you're still my little granddog puppy. I got attached six years ago, and still am. I used to have her picture posted on my desk and would show her to all my co-workers as my grandchild. They all knew who she is!

¤ ¤ credit: mama | 06.19.02 at 12:46 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

ahhh...i totally believe you, she must've been human in a past life. my childhood dog was a cocker spaniel, and she was more human than dog, too. is it a breed thing? le sigh...i sure do miss her. cute cute Claire reminds me so much of her!

Oh, oh, I'm so slow - finally the Kristine with a K is here to wish Claire a happy birthday too!!! :)
See, I love Claire Danes, and so it'd make perfectly perfect sense to name her after CD ;)
One of these days, I'm gonna send you some pretty new collars from our beautiful warehouse for your perfect animals :)

Happy Birthday Claire! Love, Isabella & Balin.

Good Lord, that's a beautiful dog. She sounds like such a sweetie. It's amazing how much a part of our lives that our pets get to be!

BTW, our Sprocket says hello and happy BD to Claire. I think he'd like to get to know her better. *wink wink* You know he's a naughty little dog...

My dog wants to know if she is single ? :P

¤ ¤ credit: Tammie | 06.19.02 at 02:20 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Veshka, Jen got it! ;-) There's a quote from "The Breakfast Club" that went something like:

"Claire? Your name is Claire? That's a fat chick's name!"

"It is not...it's a family name!"

Claire's full registered name is Lady Claire Ariel Pollman, but it's rare that she acts like a lady these days. She's too busy chasing squirrels. *g*

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 06.19.02 at 03:04 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Selina and Madeline are doing just great, Sara! Although very bummed that all the rain we've been getting lately has kept them off the screened porch... Madeline turned 4 on May 9th and Selina turns 10 on July 3rd. :-)

And Claire is very much single...but "fixed"... Poor thing!

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 06.19.02 at 03:06 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

LOL, that's ok, Gromit is too. I didn't want him humping legs......

I didn't even give him the chance to enjoy his manhood..... or know what it was...

Happy Birthday, Claire, from another doggie mommy and her kids, Ursa the Malamute and Skippy the Shepherd Mutt!

Happy Birthday Claire!

Aw, isn't she adorable. I got my pooch from the pound, so I haven't a clue about his exact age, I wish I did. Count your bleesings she is small- I bet she's a spolied rotten lapdog. Mine is the same way, about 35 lbs, and just LOVES to lay on the furniture, in fact acts all upset if he isn't treated like the royalty he thinks he is.

You know, when you read blogs first thing in the morning, you miss things like that. OK, that makes more sense then :) It's been ages since I've watched The Breakfast Club, mind you, I've been debating on purchasing it. By "Family" name, I was thinking something on the lines of what one would call a child... Mind you, "Lady" is a "fat girl's" name too, according to my youth :)
