Things that make you thankful to be alive
There is a fire, a very bad fire, four houses down from us and they just pulled a body out and took it away. Please pray for our neighbors.

UPDATE: I was right there when they pulled the guy's body out (thankfully covered). I had went down to see if there were any small kids that needed to go indoors with me or if anyone needed anything. It turns out the guy's throat had been slit (it now appears he died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds) and the fire was set after before that. Swarms of investigators are still around, fire marshalls, crime scene tape...lights flashing everywhere. Right now no one knows if it was a murder or suicide (the guy's wife died of cancer a year ago and he was in his mid 50s), but most suicides don't slit their own throat.

We finally met our sheriff neighbor 2 doors down and he kept promising over and over that he's been here for 14 years since this neighborhood first started going up (our house is 9 years old) and nothing like this has ever happened before. He was as completely shocked as the rest of us. Hopefully that means we'll get better inside information soon...but who knows if we want to hear it...

I'm just very thankful and happy my husband and I are safe and our house is ok. What a way to start your anniversary! We had to wet down the roof for the first 30 minutes because embers were flying all over our heads. My house burned to the ground when I was in the third grade, so I was terrified of losing another one. I took a few far-away photos because that's what I do to cope through things, so if any turned out, I'll post them soon. Just wanted to let everyone know we're ok. At least physically.

NEXT UPDATE: Here are the photos I took. Please excuse the bad photography. The "perfect shot" was the last thing on my mind tonight... The very last photo was shot across the street from our house, with the fire truck in front of it.

For photos shot around our neighborhood in the past, click here.

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

You got it.

Oh no. I hope everyone's ok, but it sounds like that won't be the case. I'll be praying for them all.

Well it's nearing 6 a.m. and we're off to bed. We were just back outside and there are still tons of trucks and lights going. A lot of neighbors still standing around helpless as well. I don't think anyone wants to close the doors and turn out the lights to be honest -- we all seem to be waiting for the sun to come up. A forensics truck just parked in front of our next door neighbor's house (how's that for being surreal). And a crime scene photographer just started shooting photos with the help of a big floodlight.

Yeah...not exactly the anniversary weekend we had planned. But we're ok. Thanks to everyone for their prayers and well-wishes!

Wow, what a day. Congratulations to you on your sixth wedding anniversary ~ and I'm glad that you guys weren't hurt. I know that I don't know you, but I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to anyone like that. I really feel for the guy who was killed. I pray for all of you guys!

Robyn, Please post at least a "hi". I think we are getting worried about you...I know there is not much to say in the aftermath, but a wave would be reassuring. thanks.

¤ ¤ credit: queen | 06.01.02 at 04:56 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

queen -- I'm sorry! I didn't mean to worry anyone! We went to McDonalds for breakfast after my last comment, so we didn't get to bed 'til after 6:30 a.m. and haven't been up all that long. My e-mail was flooded with people checking on us so I was replying to all of that first. We're ok. A little shell-shocked, but ok. We're going to get cleaned up and head out in a bit for dinner to get away from all this for awhile.

My prayers are with the victim's family though. We learned he had children and grandchildren. What a horrible thing for that family just before Father's Day -- especially losing their mother/grandmother a year ago. :-(

So far I haven't been able to find anything about this on the news though...the evening news should start in a bit...

¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 06.01.02 at 05:04 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

Gosh Robyn...I'm so glad you and Todd are ok and I pray for peace, not only for the two of you, but for his family as well.

OMG - just getting to my computer I can't BELIEVE what ya'll went through. {{{R&T}}} I hope you had a really nice dinner and got your minds off of this tragedy.

Glad to know you and Todd are okay. Prayers for all in the neighborhood.

It's always freaky to hear about things like this happening in areas that are "nice" areas. Not long after we moved here someone got murdered in the main street in the early hours of the morning, and then another a couple of months later. Luckily someone was recently charged for the both murders, but it's still awful to think it can happen so close to home. Glad you're all okay.

¤ ¤ credit: Joanne | 06.01.02 at 11:29 PM | link--this ¤ ¤

I wish I could say that if it was murder then they'll definitely get someone, but I can't. Someone I knew from middle school was murdered a couple of years ago in broad daylight, with plenty of witnesses. Yet the guy everyone pinned as doing it got off because he claimed self-defence (even though all evidence pointed to the contrary). :( All I can really hope in this case is that there are people who are able to look after the children and grandchildren, which is the most important thing - and that if it was murder, that person will have to live with the guilt of the hurt s/he caused to that man's family. In certain ways, that's probably far worse.

Hey, congrats on your anniversary. Sorry that it got spoilt the way it sounds like it did. :-( Make the best of it anyway, if you can.

Robyn, sounds as if you have plenty of prayers for you and Todd, and your neighbor's family. You have great friends on here. As you and I both know from plenty of experience, prayer changes things. Thank you for calling me Friday nite and then calling me back and letting me know how things went.
Now, if I could get personal and request prayers for your step-dad, Gary. His doctor's appt. is tomorrow and we're very scared. Thanks everyone.
