If they could see me now...
Thinking of a Carnival "fun" cruise? I suggest reading this first. (Congrats to Candi and Brian on their recent nuptials, btw!) My Destination Weddings and Eloping Forum has been FILLED with "Carnival ruined our wedding and/or honeymoon" stories over the years, so the instant I heard Candi was planning a Carnival cruise I wrote to warn her armed with links to tale after tale...but unfortunately it was too late and she had already booked. Thankfully, she'd chosen to marry off-ship. So I sent her the small handful of positive reviews we had received at the forum, and she hoped for the best -- but unfortunately also experienced the worst.

We get more than our fair-share of Carnival coverage here in Tampa because we are a port city. I absolutely cringe when friends call to brag that they are going on a Carnival voyage. If Todd and I won a Carnival cruise -- and I say this admitting we've never set foot on a ship -- we would not take it. I am not kidding. We would give it away. We've seen and heard too many stories, video footage shots, and live trial coverage recollections of feces floating down the aisles, power outages, illegal waste dumping in the Bay, money-making scams, horrendous living quarters, horrible food, spoiled food, and even worse treatment by the ship staff... The Tampa crowd can back me up on this -- I can't count the number of times the local news has done yet another story of weary newlyweds debarking from yet another miserable journey. It's almost a joke around our house...

Q: "Did you hear Carnival ruined yet another honeymoon?"
A: "GET OUT! I'm shocked!"
A: "Well I'm shocked AND appalled!"

Soooo...buyer beware. You get what you pay for. In Carnival's case, that ain't much. And please for the love of all that is holy and sacred in marriage -- do NOT choose Carnival for your wedding. Don't believe me? Candi's post and the comments there are only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. I've been doing this for almost six years now...trust me on this one...

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

Me being from Tampa too...I can so agree with you on this Robyn...Just about everyday I see a newcruise ship and I see all these people loading on the boat and wonder why many are going to come off that boat suing for having the worsest experience of their lives....

To be honest, I went on a Carnival cruise with my family (6 of us total) in August 2000 (out of Tampa) and we didn't have a bad experience at all. Granted, we stayed in suite rooms, but we found the entertainment passable and the food was fine. Despite this, I still think the previous cruises I took on Royal Carribean were of better caliber all-around.

Im so glad you posted about this. My instructor last night was talking about how bad his Carnival cruise was. We are planning one for next summer too! Thanks for the info!

I've heard a lot of horror stories about Carnival. Makes you wonder why they don't either revamp their practices. Probably because doing that doesn't get you any more money. But one day, something horrendus is going to happen and the company is going to collapse.

When we decided to take a cruise for our honeymoon, Carnival never even made the list. I can't forget the news story "Agony on the Ecstasy" when that ship caught on fire. We chose Disney Cruise lines and had the most amazing experience of our lives. It was absolutely fantastic.

Brad and I were at one time thinking of taking a cruise for our honeymoon. I received a postcard in the mail from Carnival last week. For some reason I immediately pitched it in the trash. I've never heard of good things about Carnival! Hmmm?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kathy Lee Gifford do commercials for Carnival? I know it was some cruise line, but I can't recall. If so, that should have been your first hint that they suck! Haha! =)

You are correct, nichole - hence the title of this entry.

I went on Carnival's Imagination in March 2001. No problems. Got right on and right off the boat.

Does that mean you went on the cruise, or walked on...and right back off again...when you saw the state the boat was in? ;-)

My Girlfriend and I took a Carnival cruise from Cape Canaveral, and enjoyed it quite a bit. We will take another cruise next year, and we'll try a different line. Robyn, I would recommend at least trying a cruise (not necessarily Carnival) once.

Carnivals don't just suck for honeymoons - they also suck for singles!! LOL! Sam broke up with me (obviously this was YEARS ago..BEFORE we got back together and eventually married!) and I went on a cruise to "party my blues away"... except I was the ONLY single person on the entire ship. (Don't ask me why I went alone - it was a moment of extreme insanity) I was told it was a singles cruise. uh... not!!!!! THAT was JUST THE BEGINNING to the WORST vacation of my life!!! LOL!

Carnivals = Carnival CRUISES,that it is.. not the ones with cotton candy and rides. Those are okay. Actually I really like those. Mmmmm... cotton candy... =drool= ;-)

Ha. We don't get all the bad press up here that you guys do. Apparently they only tell coastal states of the horrors that are Carnival.

I would like to say one thing, though.. the ship wasn't in disrepair, and there were no loud noises, or faulty toilets, or any of that stuff I read about on one of those threads. The Fascination must have been a relatively newer ship (even though the decor in our cabin was late 80s!) gack!

I do think people would enjoy them IF they wanted to blow tons of money, IF they are party animals that can stay up all night, IF they like to drink, IF a line of dancing fools with a CCL Rep. at the end pouring drinks in your mouth sounds like fun to you, and IF you're not as picky with food as I am.

Like I said, I think the only people who could possibly enjoy these things are the 18 - 25 crowd who like to party. Because they aren't fun ships - they're party ships.
