The late night double-feature picture show
What would you consider to be the "greatest movie moment of all time"? For me, I think it would be a toss-up -- either the kiss in the rain scene at the end of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" -- or the tear-jerk ending of "An Affair to Remember" as Cary Grant has the lightbulb moment. Both get me every single time, no matter how many times I've watched or that I know most of the words (and all of the plots) by heart. I was glad to see that they included the pasta-eating scene in "Lady and the Tramp" though. That movie is why we have a blonde cocker spaniel! (TV Guide link thanks to Jo.)

Hey boy take a look at me...let me dirty up your mind...

ok, call me a geek, but one of my fave movie moments:

"Luke... help me take this mask off... so I can see you with... my OWN eyes..."

Fellow geeks and nerds SHOULD know what movie that's from...

Did you ever read what our wedding recessional was? ;-)

I'm with Mike.

Most romantic words ever spoken in a movie:

"I love you"

"I know"

I watched a lot of old movies in recent years as more and more get captioned... "Breakfast at Tiffanys" was one of those ... but I just didn't care for it.

That list is so mainstream. I agree that Breakfast at Tiffany's was a great film. So was My Fair Lady. Those are real movies and simply classic. Of course, I had not seen those until I was married. Now that I don't fear "chick flicks" and real art, I'm quite happy to see them again and again. It's funny that you would lead with that title. I think my wife would pick Rocky Horror as her favorite flick. She has the soundtrack on CD. That gets really annoying on long trips. So, best flicks? Tough call. It's not Minnelli's Cabaret (1972) as listed on that site. That movie just didn't do it for me. I've seen Cabaret in person 3 times now, twice in New York. Nothing beats Alan Cumming's performance! If they could just do a film adaptation... *sigh* Anyhow, I like a lot of moderately successful movies. Just because you spent $150+ million on a movie does not make it good. Many examples come to mind, such as Titanic or Pearl Harbor, both of which I refuse to ever watch on principle. I have to put Fifth Element and Office Space on my list. The former I like because of Chris Tucker's hilarious performance. The latter I love to death, because on some levels I think that is my life :-)

Oops. I just realized that you wrote "movie moment", not movie :-) My bad. Hmmm. Milton: "Excuse me, but I believe you have my stapler!"

I almost posted without looking at the list, but my curiousity got the best of me... I hate to see the jaded moments of movies like Gone With The Wind and Titanic (which, incidentally, the sinking WAS the best moment, b/c you knew it must be over sometime soon!). Anyhoo, what about the moments that you laugh so hard you cry (like when Stifler drinks the tainted beer in American Pie) or when you just plain cry without wanting to (like in Legends of the Fall when you see the aged Anthony Hopkins)? OH! And you can't forget the surprise-ending moments like Fight Club and Sixth Sense (they just made me say out loud: WTF?!?! Where *was* I during this whole thing?) I know, these are fairly recent, everybody-has-seen-them movies, but these are good moments nonetheless. If I receive e-mails of hatred and disgust, I'll impart a few more underground moments to ease the crowd tension. :)

This was definitely a fun list to go through, even thought I didn't recognize some of the movies. I can't say that I would ever agree that the cantina scene was the best moment of star wars. (I'll agree with Michele on the "I love you." "I know")
I'd have to add some more romantic scenes like in Ghost when they are kissing over the potters wheel. Or in Pretty Woman when he sees her dressed up in the bar for the first time. There are definitely some some scenes that stick out in my mind that they missed in their list!!! :)

ok, if we're going for romantic, non star wars moments, i have to mention the movie "say anything...". in particular, the scene in the car, right after they, um, did it:

Diane: Are you shaking?

Lloyd: No.

Diane: You're shaking.

Lloyd: I don't think so.

Diane: You're cold.

Lloyd: I don't think I am.

Diane: Then why are you shaking?

Lloyd: I don't know. I think I'm happy.

Ooooh, I love that movie Mikey!!

For romance, I just love The Wedding Singer scene in the airplane at the end. That song he sang to her was just gorgeous. Also, when he said "I love you", Drew's character replied, " I am so in love with you". James even made up his own version of the song to suit us and sang it to me once and it's bring tears to my eyes every time he sang it.
