Posted: 02.15.2002 The Coochie Snorcher That Could
Excuse me whilst I snort-laugh after reading that catchy title on MSNBC.com at this early hour... What in the heck am I talking about? It appears HBO is now airing the ‘Vagina Monologues’. We missed it last night apparently, but knowing HBO they will replay it soon, so I can finally see just what the hubbub is all about. Although even the article states, "There’s no question that the ‘Vagina Monologues’ works better onstage than on television."
See now i am glad that I am not the only one who saw that last night. I was surfing cable and saw that and had to do a double take (guy thing perhaps). I then tought what the hell is HBO up to now but could not watch as other movies were on. But I will look for future posts here to see if you mention what this thing is! :-) ¤ ¤ credit: sam | 02.15.02 at 08:04 AM | link-I've known about the play for awhile... now it comes to HBO and I can't watch it. :( We don't get it. ¤ ¤ credit: meryl | 02.15.02 at 10:08 AM | link-I was a little stunned that such frankess was airing at 9:30pm. It even made me squirm a little. Still, HBO is the best thing to happen to television since Reagan's deregulation spawned infomercials. ¤ ¤ credit: Mike | 02.15.02 at 10:34 AM | link-Meryl...most stuff on HBO ends up on home video sooner or later. I wanted to see the baseball movie "61*", but we don't have cable at all. Several months later, I was shopping in Target, and they had it on VHS and DVD. Yippeee! :-) ¤ ¤ credit: Christine M. | 02.15.02 at 11:25 AM | link-I may be slammed for this...but I went with my gfriends to see the vagina monologues last year and I honestly did not love it. I liked eve and I liked julia stiles...but a lot of the skits did not grab me...a lot of them were about man bashing. Ok, let me stop here, I know I will get slammed...sorry! ¤ ¤ credit: felicia | 02.15.02 at 12:02 PM | link-heh... i'm glad i'm not the only one who says "whilst"... ¤ ¤ credit: mikey | 02.15.02 at 12:28 PM | link-I think it depends on the performance, since it is performed by so many different woman perhaps some performances are better than others. The one I saw did not feature anyone famous, with famous defined as me recognizing their name and it was just beautiful. So all I ever knew of each individual was what I saw that night. It really is amazing to see live, that is, if you can handle all the v-talk. I went with about 20 girls and it was half and half as far as like/dislike. The ones that did not like it, didn't because of the v-talk. They thought it was gross. I just don't think anything about my body is gross. But Robyn, if you see it you should really try to go to the theatre. The show last night didn't live it to the true experience. Not even close. I will stop babbling now. ¤ ¤ credit: Dawn | 02.15.02 at 12:33 PM | link-it's a great read actually. worth it:) ¤ ¤ credit: lor | 02.15.02 at 01:00 PM | link-Dawn -- I'd love to see it live. Unfortunately you have to remember we live in a 'retirement community' and things like that rarely venture into Tampa until several months/years later, if at all. When we went to see "Beauty and the Beast", it had been on Broadway a few years already before it toured here. And Amelie ran one week very quietly in a very "nothing" theater last November, I believe -- we didn't even know what it was until it was too late. And I doubt it will ever come back again... ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 02.15.02 at 01:57 PM | link-Had the chance to see it but missed it! Argg! Luckily it seems as if it will be coming around again. *snort* :D and here I honestly thought that the retiries where rounded people who had the time to actually go to the theater. Shows you what I know. I guess canasta is more entertaining. That really sucks Robyn. We'll just have to find a way to get you to a place with theaters. ¤ ¤ credit: munin | 02.15.02 at 02:12 PM | link-Hey -- GUESS WHAT!?! I have to happily eat my words -- we are getting it -- in MAY!!! I decided to do a little digging online on a whim, and lo and behold... Now I just have to convince Kathy and Katie to come down here so I don't have to drag Todd in...tee hee... ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 02.15.02 at 02:26 PM | link-We watched it last night. Felicia, I too liked some skits, but others were too feminist for me. Of course, I am an anti-feminist... I'm sure the live performance would have been much better. ¤ ¤ credit: Ashley | 02.15.02 at 03:30 PM | link-Good point, Christine M. I forgot about that! Thank God HBO puts stuff on DVD / VHS. Long live DVD! ¤ ¤ credit: meryl | 02.15.02 at 06:35 PM | link-
