Posted: 02.12.2002 Go on Canadian, beat it!
It...just...got...interesting. "The International Skating Union announced Tuesday that it will conduct an 'internal assessment' into a controversial judging decision at the finals of the Olympic pairs figure skating competition Monday night, where the coveted gold medal went to a Russian pair who stumbled, rather than to a Canadian couple who didn't. Four of the judges who voted for the Russians are from former Soviet or communist countries; the four who voted for the Canadians are from countries in the Western bloc."
YEAH BABY!!! Now I just need to find clips online of the performances. You thought I Tivo'd it, right? No, I fell asleep before I started the Tivo. I am so lame. Let me know if you see the clips online anywhere! I already saw the fall though... It would ROCK if they changed it. ¤ ¤ credit: Christine | 02.13.02 at 07:59 AM | link--this ¤ ¤We watched, and even knowing hoopty's disdain for her, I was stunned! ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 02.13.02 at 08:01 AM | link--this ¤ ¤Well, it appears to be unanimous in your blog. The Olympic judges suck. We were watching the men's skating last night. The Russian "favorite" totally wiped out on the quad jump. Guess that's another gold for them! OH! And side note: how terribly sad about Todd Eldridge. ¤ ¤ credit: Tara | 02.13.02 at 09:32 AM | link--this ¤ ¤We missed it last night. So wanted to see the skating. I can't believe that they judged it they way they did, I though stumbling counted towards a deduction in points. As a biased candaian, am hoping they [the canadians] get the gold. ¤ ¤ credit: munin | 02.13.02 at 09:52 AM | link--this ¤ ¤i like the way they handled it. typical canadians acccepting their silver with pride. hmmmm. makes me proud. ¤ ¤ credit: lisa | 02.13.02 at 10:06 AM | link--this ¤ ¤I saw the whole competition and I was completely *stunned*!!! I really thought the Canadians deserved the gold. Their performance was rock solid. And off the subject, but did ANYONE understand the Russians costumes??? They were two different colors... I just didn't get it. ¤ ¤ credit: Christi | 02.13.02 at 10:23 AM | link--this ¤ ¤Sucky outcome. The Canadians deserved it! I felt bad for the Russians too. It must suck knowing (most of) the world thinks you shouldn't have won. ¤ ¤ credit: Linh | 02.13.02 at 10:48 AM | link--this ¤ ¤I complained about their costumes, too, Christi! Horribly mis-matched. ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 02.13.02 at 11:06 AM | link--this ¤ ¤I hate to be shallow about looks, but was it just me or was the Russian in need of a mallet to knock that very odd look on his face? It was like he was a walking corpse, his face contorted into some suprised head on collision look. It was hard to look at. Now, his partner was easy on the eyes (yes, that was sexist). But, what's this about her accident? She took a blow to the skull from a skate blade and had brain surgery? Now that's a rough sport. And I thought my sport (soccer) was underrated for it's roughness. ¤ ¤ credit: kevin | 02.13.02 at 11:25 AM | link--this ¤ ¤I felt sorry for the Russians too. It wasn't their fault that the judges made such a horrible decision and yet, those costumes! UGH! lol! ¤ ¤ credit: Christi | 02.13.02 at 11:42 AM | link--this ¤ ¤Well, I hope something comes out of it because everyone's so dissapointed here. Yet, I have to say... canadians are so humble... they are happy with the silver. Well, the ones I've discussed this "robbery" with. ¤ ¤ credit: Beatriz | 02.13.02 at 01:12 PM | link--this ¤ ¤was I hearing things last night or did Bob Costas say at the end of the men's competition that the French Pairs judge admitted yesterday that he/she traded the pairs vote for the Russians with a vote for the French ice dancing team. I know I heard Costas say that, but I haven't heard or read it anywhere else. And I didn't catch it being discussed during the press conference today. Did Costas just dish the info before it was confirmed? ¤ ¤ credit: Lisa | 02.13.02 at 04:25 PM | link--this ¤ ¤I heard the same thing (Christine talks about it on blahblahblog.com) -- and our local news reported it, too. Not sure what's going on now... ¤ ¤ credit: robyn | 02.13.02 at 04:38 PM | link--this ¤ ¤
