Breaking OU News
Looks like Mark Mangino is going to Kansas, and Chuck Long is being promoted to OU's offensive coordinator position, effective in the Cotton Bowl! I'm actually very happy with this turn of events!

when I first heard the news this morning, I was really surprised since he turned down the KU offer a couple days ago. I guess they offered more money or something went down. Our offense definitely needs a turn-around, maybe this will help. Is that why you're so happy about it, Robyn?

Yeah -- it's obviously just my opinion, but I think a lot of the offense's success last year rested on the shoulder of Heupel and his audibles at the line, rather than some amazing offensive coaching strategy. Josh could read the field and change plays like no one I've ever seen -- and once we lost that gift at quarterback this year (again my opinion), I just don't think Mangino was able to switch things up enough to actually make things work. I've heard reading some of the OU boards that Mangino was going to be busted back from his two positions (offensive coordinator and offensive line coach) to just one, as Stoops decided it was too much for just one person. So perhaps in a way this was his way of being able to save face. But I also think he'll do as well in the Kansas program as anyone can -- and really look forward to monitoring his progress (unless of course it's against OU -- LOL!).

Leach has started a good program at Texas Tech, so maybe Mangino can do the same at Kansas. I actually read on one of the boards a week ago that Josh has previously said that he did a lot less audibles at the line under Mangino than he did Leach, but it might not have been the complete truth. I agree about Heupel being the biggest part of our offense. He and Bubba Burcham (last year's center) were obvious keys that were missing this year ... Mike Stoops said he wants to wait for the right opportunity and I think that's smart. He'll get an offer from a better school in another year or two. Something needed to change in the offensive coaching, so, you're right, perhaps Mangino did this early to save face.

Hmmmmm...that's funny about Heupel... I listened to the Sports Animal on the 'net later this afternoon after I posted what I did, and the host basically said the same thing I did. I felt like I was typing in stereo, or he was reading my blog! ;-) Did you hear Mack Brown announced Applewhite will start in the Holiday Bowl? *big shocker there* Todd just told me!
